The Career Technician is a grant funded position.

Position Summary

The Career Tech will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between education and employment by developing and implementing programs that enhance the skills of individuals in our community. Incumbent will provide resources that will serve as a steppingstone in obtaining employment for American Indian/Alaskan Natives. This position will focus on exit follow-up services, participant tracking, documentation, and ongoing employment support, allowing Workforce Specialists to concentrate on intensive case management and program enrollment. Additionally, the Career Tech position will serve as a career development pathway, providing staff with hands-on workforce experience, skills development, and mentorship that prepares them for potential advancement into a Workforce Specialist role.

Essential Functions

An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:

· Support the entire Workforce Specialist exit follow-up caseload, based on program needs

· Conduct participant exits and quarterly follow-up updates, tracking progress in coordination with Workforce Specialists

· Administer and collect participant program surveys

· Maintain and update Workforce Specialist participant lists and digital case files

· Support the Workforce Specialist obtain and track receipts and required documentation from active and exited participants

· Provide ongoing employment and career counseling to exit follow-up participants

· Provide resource referrals to address challenges related to goal setting, problem solving, life management, and related skills

· Contact with exit follow-up participants to ensure activities are completed within required timeframes and in compliance with program and funding source requirements

· Assist exit follow up participants with job search tools, technology, and online resources

· Provide professional guidance or facilitate job readiness workshops, including resume development, interview skills, and financial literacy, as needed

· Conduct outreach to local agencies, employers, and training providers to obtain current information on employment, training opportunities, and WEX, OJT, or internship sites

· Build and maintain strong relationships with employers and community partners to support employment retention and career development

· Maintain contact with participants and employers to address issues that may impact ongoing employment or retention

· Conduct participant and employer recruitment and outreach activities

· Identify and recruit employers and participants for UAII Workforce Development Job Fairs

· Process program documentation and maintain files in accordance with agency and funding requirements; prepare and submit monthly reports

· Represent the agency at community, government, and business meetings, as assigned

· Keep Workforce Managers informed of activities, pending issues, and potential concerns

· Travel between Los Angeles and Orange County offices to meet with participants, as required

· Perform other related duties as assigned

You may perform all elements of this position or identified components, other duties as assigned or required for the purpose of the position or for organizational efficiency and effective client service

· High School Diploma or GED

· One (1) year of experience in case management, workforce, or other related field.

· A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

· Associate’s degree in business administration, social services, or other related field.

· Three (3) years of experience in case management, workforce, or other related field.

· Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.

· Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

· Knowledge of workforce development and managing job placement and retention programs

· Knowledge of area job market and workforce trends.

· Knowledge of job placement skills.

· Knowledge of DOL, WIOA, EDD, and DPSS.

· Knowledge of Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (PL93-638).

· Knowledge of Title V of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (PL 94-437).

· Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (PL 111-148).

· Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures and lifestyles and work effectively with AI/AN population.

· Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants, while maintaining a high level of professionalism.

· Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).

· Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information, exercise discretion, and comply with all applicable federal and state privacy laws, as well as UAII policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).

· Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.

· Ability to keep up with a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to anticipate issues and find solutions quickly and effectively.

· Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.

· Ability to interact with various people on various, and at times, complex issues.

· Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

Conditions of Hire

· Eligibility to work in the U.S.

· Fingerprint clearance and post-offer drug test.

· Proof of hepatitis B vaccination and TB screening.
