General Engineer (Recent Grad).

Duties Participate in the BPA engineering rotation program and complete assignments in at least two different functional areas. Modify standard practices and adapt equipment or techniques to solve a variety of engineering problems and adapt precedents or make significant departures from previous approaches to similar projects. Plan and carry out engineering studies, analyses, and calculations for the solution of problems associated with the overall planning, design, or operation of a high‑voltage power generation and transmission system. Adapt, modify, or compromise with guidelines and precedents in consideration of ecological or aesthetic factors which affect the approach to engineering problems. Perform design and layout of plans for systems and equipment. Perform design and engineering functions for older or well‑established systems and equipment when new requirements or changed requirements are imposed. Key Requirements U.S. Citizen. Preliminary background check required before employment. Pathways Recent Graduate Program Requirements Recent Graduate participants will be on a trial period for the duration of the appointment. A Pathways Recent Graduate Participant Agreement is required. Conversion Pathways Recent Graduates are converted to a term or permanent position upon program completion. This is not automatic nor guaranteed; it is at the discretion of the employing office. To be eligible for conversion, a Recent Graduate must complete at least one year of continuous service, be a U.S. citizen, demonstrate successful job performance, meet qualification standards for the position to which converted, receive recommendation from the first‑level supervisor, and meet agency‑specific requirements as specified in the Participant Agreement. Recent Graduate Eligibility Recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associate, bachelor, master, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying institution. Student within 90 days of the closing date who will graduate with a qualifying degree by that time; a student may not be appointed until graduation. Preference‑eligible veteran who was precluded from applying due to military service obligation; eligibility begins upon release or discharge and cannot exceed six years after degree completion. Basic Requirements Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must lead to a bachelor’s degree in engineering accredited by ABET, or include required coursework in specified engineering sciences. Combination of education and experience: Demonstrated knowledge of physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and practical understanding of engineering sciences and techniques. Professional registration or licensure such as EI, EIT, or PE; written test evidence of FE examination; successful completion of required courses; or related curriculum with professional experience under supervision. GS‑7 Specialized Experience Requires at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑5. Specialized experience is routine engineering work characterized by knowledge, application, and ongoing development of engineering knowledge. You may substitute education: one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement in a qualifying bachelor’s curriculum. GS‑9 Specialized Experience Requires at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑7. Specialized experience is non‑routine engineering work characterized by professional knowledge, application, and positive ongoing development of professional knowledge. You may substitute education: two years of graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent. GS‑11 Specialized Experience Requires at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS‑9. Specialized experience includes assisting with engineering studies, supporting design and evaluation of systems, and project management tasks under senior engineers. You may substitute education: three years of graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Education Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be reviewed by a recognized evaluation organization.
