HRMOD Analyst

Salary $6,031.00 - $7,547.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of an alternate range when applicable. Final Filing Date Until Filled Application Methods Electronic (using CalCareer account) or Mail Drop‑off Job Overview The Analyst II, under the direction of a Supervisor I, will work with CDE offices and employee databases to gather, analyze, and prepare HR data. Incumbent leads projects that modernize payroll, benefits, position control, and other HR processes, and supports the transition to the State Controller's Office New California State Payroll System (CSPS). The Analyst writes or modifies queries in FOCUS to retrieve data, performs complex quantitative analysis, and develops new data models and visualizations. Personal Leave Program 2025 This position is subject to the Personal Leave Program 2025. It will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. The salary range shown does not reflect this reduction. Working Conditions Hybrid. The position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, including working remotely and a minimum of 2 days per week in the office. Minimum Requirements Minimum qualifications as stated in the classification specification. Experience with data analysis, queries, and HR processes. Proficiency in Excel (including advanced formulas and VBA) and SQL or similar. Desirable Qualifications Experience writing queries, applying research methodology, and building dashboards from large datasets. Knowledge of statistical and data‑analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or similar. Experience evaluating program performance and modernizing work processes. Strong work ethic, positive attitude, enthusiasm, and self‑motivation. Ability to develop and present ideas clearly and effectively to small or large audiences with little guidance. Excellent writing, verbal communication, organization, and time management skills. Knowledge and experience with state payroll, timekeeping, benefits, retirement, disability transactions, maintaining organizational charts, and analyzing Personnel Request packages. Intermediate process improvement skills, such as Lean Six Sigma experience.
