Physician - Family Practice

SUMMARY : The staff family medicine physician will see patients of all ages (0-99) to examine and treat common acute illnesses, chronic illnesses and injuries; correctly diagnose disease and formulate treatment, as well as order appropriate laboratory tests and radiological studies; and refer to specialists as needed, write prescriptions and perform office procedures within the scope of expertise protocols and available equipment.

Provider has outpatient duties with target of 18 patients per day. See walk-in patients and manage time. Will take afterhours calls by telephone only - there are no inpatients. Call schedule is dependent on staffing (currently two consecutive weeks, two to three times a year).

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Support and implement the organization's vision, mission and values.
2. Determine priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
3. Perform all job functions in a professional and courteous manner. This includes answering all general phone calls timely and providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
4. Foster and promote a culture of service excellence and accountability.
5. Acquire and document relevant history and physical examination.
6. Make professionally competent assessments and document those with all relevant problems.
7. Develop reasonable plans including treatment, referrals and use of drugs within scope of practice.
8. Seek help and guidance as necessary.
9. Perform relevant procedures competently with complete documentation (see provider privileges).
10. Provide and consistently document relevant education.
11. Respond to patient special needs and appropriate requests.
12. Work appropriate hours to minimize patient wait time as well as help to relieve overload situations/assist other providers.
13. Participate in after-hour call coverage (full week) for two weeks (three times a year, depending on staffing).
14. Act and communicate in a professional manner to reduce friction with patients, providers, and staff.
15. Attend appropriate meetings as requested.
16. Maintain professional appearance in accordance with organizational policies.
17. Participate in quarterly peer reviews and orientation activities as requested.
18. Participate in committees when requested.
19. Cooperate in call panels as scheduled.
20. Competency of EPIC electronic medical record is required.
21. Supervise NPs adequately.
22. Uses discretion and judgement in handling sensitive or confidential information.
23. Comply with organizational policies and procedures.
24. Perform all other duties as assigned.
25. Be able to rotate and cover other sites when requested.
26. On time charting and completion of EMR as per company policy.

• Doctorate in Medicine or Doctorate in Osteopathy. Completion of post-graduate residency in family medicine.
• Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university.
• Active medical license in California; active DEA registration or eligibility to obtain; Board-certified in Family Medicine.
• Sees all patient ages (0-99).
• At least two years of experience (preferred); new graduates welcome to apply.
• Previous ambulatory clinical experience above and beyond residency (preferred).
• Prior experience with Patient Centered Medical Home model of care delivery.
• Working knowledge of medical Spanish.
• Willing to participate in after-hour call (two consecutive weeks, approximately three times a year, depending on staffing).
• May participate in Saturday clinic rotation.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents, such as policies and procedures, benefits information, benefit surveys, board minutes, routine mail, simple contracts, and procedure manuals. Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with employees, visitors, and management.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as milligram per kilogram dosages, ratios (for example urine-serum creatinine), discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to apply common sense to daily situations that arise. Ability to make decisions and execute timely in order to produce a positive outcome.

The noise level in the work environment is often low. However, there are many times when there is a high ambient background noise of phones and multiple conversations. Must be able to screen out the background noise to concentrate on the work at hand.
