About the Role This Senior Map Engine Engineer role is responsible for supporting building engines to support high definition maps of fully autonomous trucks. Our Mapping Team is responsible for developing and maintaining the underlying software framework that powers map‑based services and applications. The engineer will be involved in designing and implementation of spatial data structures, optimizing the memory footprint and ensuring the timely delivery of spatial queries in the onboard system. The engineer may also work on developing some web services of the mapping pipeline. What You Will Do Manage TuSimple’s core map data structure and geospatial query engine Design and implement data structure and representation for onboard algorithm modules Design and implement module in map generation pipeline Help improve our engineering process and software quality by participating in engineering design reviews, code reviews, unit tests, CI/CD process, etc. Collaborate with other engineering teams to conduct integration and tests What You Will Need Education: At least a Bachelor’s Degree is required for this role. Location: Ability to work at TuSimple’s San Diego Headquarters at least three days per week. Experience At least 6+ years of experience on C++ development. Python would be a plus. Knowledge and proven practical experience in one or more of the following field: graph theory, computational geometry, parallel computing, database systems Experience with real time or embedded systems Practical experience in processing large‑scale and real‑world geospatial data What Will Set You Apart Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Machine learning or other related fields is preferred Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS Practical experience in the autonomous driving industry Leadership and/or Management experience is also preferred.
