Job Description
Life Skills Coach - Work with Youth, Build Confidence & Have Fun
Permanent Part-Time | Starting at $16.00/hour | Flexible Schedule | Year Round Position
Looking for a job where every day is a little different and where you can actually make a difference while having fun?
As a Life Skills Coach , you'll work one-on-one with youth to help them build confidence, independence, and everyday skills. This a permanent, year-round part-time position, with flexible scheduling throughout the school year and opportunities for additional hours during the summer and school breaks.
No two days will be the same!
You might spend one day helping someone learn how to budget their money, another practicing coping skills and identifying triggers, and another heading out into the community to work on communication, social skills, or independence.
The goal is simple: help youth become more confident, capable, and comfortable navigating everyday life.
What Does a Life Skills Coach Actually Do?
You'll help youth practice things like:
- Cooking and basic household skills
- Money management and budgeting
- Personal hygiene and self-care
- Communication and social skills
- Emotional regulation and problem-solving
- Independence and decision-making
- Community skills like shopping, ordering food, or navigating public spaces
- Trying new activities and building confidence
A big part of this job is simply being a positive role model . Someone who can encourage, teach, laugh with, and support the youth you're working with.
No two kids are exactly alike, which means no two shifts are exactly alike either!
Don't Have Experience? That's Okay!
We provide training for the role, so you don't need to come in knowing everything.
We also meet weekly as a team to share ideas, learn new strategies, talk through challenges, and help everyone continue growing in their role.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Patient and encouraging
- Reliable and dependable
- Comfortable being a positive role model
- Willing to learn and accept feedback
- Able to have fun while maintaining appropriate boundaries
- Creative when it comes to finding ways to keep youth engaged
- Genuinely interested in helping young people grow
The Less Exciting, but Important, Part
At the end of each session, you'll write documentation about what you worked on, how the youth responded, and anything that may help their team continue supporting their progress.
Don't worry, it isn't a five-page essay with references! Just a brief summary of the session and the skills you worked on together.
What Does the Schedule Look Like?
This is a permanent part-time position available year-round.
During the school year, many of our services take place after school, making this a great position for someone looking for afternoon or flexible part-time hours.
Available shifts may include:
- 4-hour shifts
- After-school hours
- Monday–Friday
- Optional weekend hours
Schedules may vary depending on youth availability and individual service needs.
Summer = More Adventures & More Hours
While this position continues throughout the entire year, summer opens up even more opportunities!
With youth out of school, there is more time for longer shifts, community outings, outdoor activities, and hands-on experiences.
Depending on the youth you're working with, your summer day could include:
- Parks and outdoor adventures
- Nature outings
- Community events
- Swimming or recreational activities
- Shopping trips
- Cooking or baking
- Games and creative activities
- Exploring new places
- Practicing real-world independence skills
Additional hours are typically available during the summer for staff who would like to work more.
When the school year begins again, the position continues with more of a focus on after-school and afternoon services.
Requirements
You'll need:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation
- The ability to reliably attend scheduled sessions and trainings
- Patience, professionalism, and a willingness to work with youth
