MESA Program Specialist

About APL APL’s STEM Program Management Office is dedicated to developing the nation’s STEM talent through programs such as MESA, STEM Academy, ASPIRE, and Pathways. We strive to deliver impactful programs that empower children across Maryland to succeed in STEM majors and careers. Position As the MESA Program Specialist, your primary responsibility is to collaborate with APL volunteers to develop resources, prototypes, and materials that enable teachers and students to design STEM-focused projects. You will provide in‑person and virtual support to representatives from Maryland school districts to facilitate each district’s MESA program and competition, serve as head judge for regional competitions, and manage the state competition. Other Duties Recruiting and training technical volunteers for professional development, facilitating virtual career talks, supplying materials to participating school districts, coordinating grant projects, and serving on the National Engineering Design Competition Rules Committee and other relevant committees. Qualifications BS or BA in education, STEM major, or related field. 3+ years experience implementing project‑based curriculum and supporting teachers. Skilled in project management for educational programs. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Highly organized, detailed, and able to deliver within time frames. Strong writer, presenter, and communicator in educational, professional, and community settings. Willing to travel to all Maryland counties and work evenings/weekends as needed. U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, as required. Preferred Experience crafting and facilitating professional development workshops for teachers. Proficient in computer programming languages. Teaching experience with K‑12 students. Enthusiasm for new STEM technologies and translating them into learning experiences. Experience running a learning management system. Experience with grant‑related programs. Experience planning and managing large events. The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Minimum rate $62,900 annually; maximum rate $180,300 annually.
