Program Counselor Responsibilities Program Counselors play a crucial role in the residential and social aspects of our pre‑college programs, maintaining a safe living and learning community by upholding the Student and Family Handbook and building community among the students. As a live‑in position (up to 40 hours per week, with housing), PCs provide supervision, advisement, and engagement opportunities for students residing on campus for the duration of the program. Assist in the residential check‑in and check‑out process, ensuring all students are moved into their room and understand the policies. Present and support student orientation events, including diversity, equity, and inclusion sessions and community‑building activities. Support students’ physical and mental health and refer them to appropriate resources as needed. Attend weekly staff meetings. Enforce program policies and procedures to ensure safety, documenting violations and incidents. Mediate roommate and peer conflicts. Manage student and staff interactions using student management software. Abide by Curfew and Proximity policies as scheduled. Plan and lead recreational and social events such as movie nights, arts events, community‑building activities, and outings. Assist with administrative tasks using technology such as Orah, Pronto, Canvas, Microsoft Office, and other online software. Support the program through other duties as assigned. PCs will typically work in the afternoons and evenings and are expected to use a mobile phone for communication with staff and students. Knowledge & Abilities Outgoing disposition with enthusiasm for working with high‑school students. Establish a nurturing, inclusive community and encourage positive self‑expression. Flexible, highly adaptable, and comfortable responding to an ever‑changing environment. Highly motivated and comfortable taking initiative. Exercise sound judgment, enforce rules, and assume leadership roles. Interest in New York City culture and comfort exploring it with students using mass transit. Willing to live onsite. Education, Work Experience & Licensure Legally authorized to work in the United States. Bachelor’s degree or currently completing one. 1+ years of residential life experience (e.g., summer camp, boarding school, college campus). CPR certified or willing to obtain certification prior to program start. Two professional references required. Program Schedule & Dates Virtual Training: May 26‑27 and May 29, 2026 Move‑in: May 31, 2026 Term 2: June 22‑July 3, 2026 Term 3: July 5‑July 17, 2026 Term 4: July 19‑July 31, 2026 Move‑out: August 1, 2026 Benefits Opportunity to work with a passionate, diverse team. Excellent command of the English language. Additional language proficiency is a plus. Physical Demands Ability to sit, stand, walk, travel up and down stairs, crouch, stoop, and reach. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Other Requirements All staff will work closely with minors and must complete all training related to protection of minors.
