Organic Chemistry Tutor

Our tutors (Science Learning Center) provide assistance to students by helping with lecture or lab materials, as well as helping with study methods, or technology needed to complete course-related material. Tutors may also assist with answering general questions about the college, providing assistance and guidance to college services. This tutor position will be focusing heavily on tutoring for Organic Chemistry courses. Tutoring will take place primarily in person at main campus (North Canton), there is a potential of working in Akron, as needed (substitute tutoring). Flexible during outlined times for the Science Learning Center (SLC). SLC is open Monday through Thursday 10am to 7pm. Schedule Requirements: Availability Monday through Thursday; Minimum of 15 hours per week; Maximum of 28 hours per week; Scheduled between 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; Must include at least one evening shift (after 4:00 p.m.) Hourly Pay Range: $15.11/hour to $20.39/hour The positive energy at Stark State College comes from exceptionally dedicated employees who work hard for students. In this role, you will empower students to excel in coursework through personalized support and guidance. Typical duties include: Conduct one-on-one and group tutoring sessions. Foster a positive and inclusive learning atmosphere conducive to academic success for all students. Guide students in studying for exams, understanding body systems, and interpreting lab results. Use interactive tools such as models, diagrams, and practice quizzes to enhance learning. Collaborate with faculty and fellow Learning Coaches to develop tailored resources and workshops to support student learning. To be considered you'll need: A bachelor's degree in chemistry or closely related field with course(s) in general chemistry and organic chemistry is required. Preferred Qualifications: Previous tutoring experience is desired but not required. Comfortable with both in-person and online instruction platforms. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. State Teachers Retirement System (STRS) The State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), was established to provide a secure retirement for Ohio's public educators. STRS is available to all faculty members. The College contributes 14% of the employees' wages for the retirement benefit and the employee contributes 14% of their wages toward the retirement benefit. Instructional Fees All instructional and general fees for credit, audit, or non-credit courses offered at Stark State College will be paid by the College from income of the College budgeted for employee benefits up to an amount per academic semester not to exceed such fees for six credit hours per semester. A part-time employee may enroll in any section or course on a space-available basis. To qualify for this benefit, employees: Shall take the course(s) during a semester in which they are currently working. Shall have instructed a minimum of 8 credit hours or 13 CEU's at Stark State College or if paid hourly, worked a minimum of 320 hours prior to receiving this benefit. Must obtain the approval of their supervisor. Employees paid on an hourly basis shall refer to the minimum hours worked requirement to qualify for the benefit. The employee's primary position during the semester the benefit is used determines the employee's eligibility. Eligible part-time employees desiring this benefit must complete an Instructional Fee Waiver form available on mystarkstate and must submit it to the employee's supervisor for approval. Instructional fees are available for IRS dependents of part-time employees. All instructional and general fees for credit, audit, or non-credit courses offered at Stark State College will be paid by the College from income of the College budgeted for employee benefits for dependents of part-time employees for six semester hours per academic year per employee. Dependents of part-time employees may enroll in any section or course on a space-available basis. The student will be required to pay the processing fee and all other incidental fees associated with the course enrolled in each semester. Dependents of employees classified as student workers, substitute workers, or seasonal workers will not be eligible to participate in this program. Dependents of part-time employees who are eligible for tuition waivers such as College Credit Plus, various scholarships and grants, and other such nonloan programs must use those funds prior to use of the Instructional Fee Waiver benefit.
