Client/Lab Associate I - Oncology - Lewisville, TX Shift: Wednesday to Sunday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Pay range: $17.71+ per hour. Responsibilities All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner with an emphasis on quality. The job is complex and requires strong organizational skills, autonomy, and the ability to learn complex specimen types related to test orders. Handle all paraffin tissue blocks/slides and other oncology specimens including bone marrow aspirates, bone marrow core/clots and other irreplaceable tissue specimens. Identify specimens that come in kit boxes, purple irreplaceable bags, red bags identifying oncology specimens. Open and sort specimens according to priority following established protocol for quality check of blocks. Process samples in multiple systems and identify whether the order is electronic, manual, swivel chair or shared. Capture images of blocks received and scan images into the document repository. Handle complex test orders, identify problems, and resolve simple oncology problems when necessary using established protocol. Understand compliance policies related to test ordering, research test ordering information on the request form and computer system. Investigate and search for missing specimens in the department, including trash checks. Communicate professionally both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate ability to learn assigned duties and understand how all functions of oncology processing align. Comply with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Use personal protective equipment. Participate in process improvement. Prepare blocks to be returned to the client as requested. Pull problem reports and work on final accessioning of problem samples as requested. Distribute H&E slides to pathologists as requested. Scan test requisitions into Optimaxx as requested. Other job duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of lab experience. Physical and Mental Requirements Able to transport samples to and from a variety of departments. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to lift 10–20 lbs. Knowledge Detail oriented. Uses good judgment when determining how to resolve problems. Knowledge of medical terminology (helpful). Skills Proficient with Microsoft Office. Can type 30 wpm and perform ten‑key tasks. Some Excel experience preferred. Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills. Strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment. Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced, quality‑driven environment. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required). Some college courses (2–3 years) preferred. Languages English (Preferred).
