The State of New Hampshire, Department of Information Technology, User Services Division - Enterprise Desktop Services has a full time vacancy for a Technical Support Specialist III.

SCOPE OF WORK: To perform installation, configuration, operation, and maintenances of desktop hardware, software, and peripherals for New Hampshire Employment Security (NHES). To provide PC LAN hardware and software installation, hardware maintenance, troubleshooting, and support. Responsible for reporting inventory updates/changes, creation and maintenance of technical documentation, and hardware moves of agencies supported by this position. To work with customers and to provide instruction and guidance.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Performs desktop related troubleshooting, including diagnosis, resolution and documentation for all desktop related hardware and software, including operating systems, peripherals, and application software.

Assembles, configures, installs, and maintains personal computer hardware, software, and peripherals. Documents issues for future resolutions.

Plans, implements, and documents hardware and software installations and upgrades for PCs, including application and communication software.

Plans and executes moves of large numbers of desktop computers, completing all internal checks and controls.

Works with other state agencies and vendors to resolve computer hardware and software related problems, including warranty services.

Assists, NHES departmental staff, internal customers, and the end-user community in technical matters associated with personal computer hardware, software and peripherals and educates on compliance with standards.

Participates in and leads relevant projects as assigned by manager, updating the project database and knowledge base.

Provides backup coverage for other DoIT-Enterprise Desktop Support (EDS) technical staff.

Monitors relevant help desk tickets and assigns to self or other appropriate technician for resolution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education : Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major study in mathematics, computer science, business administration, or a related degree field with at least fifteen (15) credit hours in the field of computer science. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience : Three years' experience in computer programming or design, two years of which shall have involved the support and maintenance of a software operating system. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Must be eligible to hold a valid driver's license and have access to transportation for use in statewide travel.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Position requires experience supporting Windows with Active Directory, as well as desktop experience supporting various levels of desktop operating systems,

Temporary schedule changes or off hours work (non-business hours) may be required to allow for planned installations and upgrades or for other work that cannot be done without major disruption to users and network systems within core business hours. May be reassigned based on workload and/or support requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A+ certification or equivalent experience preferred.

PREFERRED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of data communications and internetworking, a thorough knowledge of microcomputer operating systems, software and hardware, strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to function independently in a demanding environment.
