Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse performs basic nursing duties. This includes executing physician orders, operating pill call, and assisting the physician in examinations and treatments. The nurse performs technical and clinical procedures within the scope of their license. They assist in the professional management of the medical department. The position involves applying appropriate nursing skills in the care and treatment of patients. Responsibilities include attending sick call with the physician and preparing a list of patients to be examined. The nurse prepares the examining room and equipment. They operate pill call, dispense medication, and document as required by applicable policies and procedures. The position requires controlling medication, syringes, and other medical supplies or equipment. They perform emergency procedures as needed. Maintaining cleanliness of equipment and work areas is essential, utilizing appropriate sanitation methods. Documentation and reporting of activities must be in accordance with established policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with evaluating the provision of all medical services. The nurse must maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Observing and recording patient behavior is part of the job. They inspect the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband. Assisting with preparing and maintaining various records, reports, and logs is required. The nurse reads, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures and regulations. Responding to lawsuits and attending court hearings when necessary is part of the role. The position requires effective communication with administration, staff, patients, and the general public. Evaluating and recommending physical safety requirements for a safe working environment is essential. The nurse helps prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies. They escort patients or coordinate their movement for medical treatment. The position involves initiating and completing investigations as directed. Engaging in functions in confined areas and working rotating shifts is required. The nurse must be aware that verbal abuse may occur in an antagonistic environment.
