Accounting Technician

Butte County

Accounting Technician

This classification is scheduled to receive a 5% COLA effective July 2027. This recruitment will be limited to the first 40 applicants. The recruitment will close upon receiving 40 applications. The current vacancy is within the Department of Employment and Social Services. The eligibility list created from this recruitment may be used to fill any current or future vacancies in ANY Butte County Department. New employees generally start at the beginning of the salary range. The salary range has 7 steps with employees typically starting at step 1 and moving to step 2 upon the completion of a successful one-year probationary period. Each year thereafter, upon completion of successful performance, employees move to subsequent next step. Each step represents a 5% increase. Note: A training and experience evaluation may be utilized to determine an applicant's ranking among qualified candidates. Based upon information provided in this application including responses to supplemental questions, an applicant's education, training and experience (full-time equivalent) may be evaluated. Applicants should provide thoughtful and thorough responses to supplemental questions as they play an important role in this recruitment process. All qualifying work experience that is described or included in responses to supplemental questions MUST also be included and detailed in the "Work Experience" section of this application. "See Resume" is not an acceptable response for any supplemental question. FLSA: Non-Exempt DEFINITION Under general supervision, performs specialized and complex technical accounting work and fiscal support duties in connection with reviewing, processing, and recording financial and accounting records and transactions; and performs related duties as assigned. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the Accounting Technician series. Positions at this level perform of the full range of duties as assigned, work independently, and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Incumbents may assume specialized responsibility. Duties may vary based upon the department to which assigned; however, all positions require the ability to interpret and process financial records and transactions independent of supervision and to independently solve complicated transactions and problems. This class is distinguished from the Senior Accounting Technician in that the latter performs more complex work assigned to the series and serves in a lead capacity over assigned fiscal support staff.
