Job DescriptionExperienced Heavy Equipment MechanicBlenheim Construction, Inc. performs general site improvements, excavations, and installation of underground utilities. We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to help keep our fleet safe, reliable, and ready for daily field operations.Position OverviewThe Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining construction equipment used in excavation, underground utility installation, and general site improvement work.Key ResponsibilitiesInspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy construction equipment, trucks, trailers, and related attachments.Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, brakes, and undercarriage components.Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, fluid checks, and safety inspections.Respond to field service calls and perform repairs at job sites when needed.Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, diagnostic reports, and equipment fault codes.Order or request parts, document repairs, and communicate equipment status to management and operators.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in the shop and in the field.Required Experience and QualificationsProven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, or construction equipment mechanic.Strong working knowledge of excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, compactors, trucks, and trailers.Ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, diesel engine, and mechanical systems.High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, tradecertification, or manufacturer training preferred.Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required.· Ability to supply and maintain personal hand tools commonly used in heavy equipment repair.Preferred SkillsExperience with computerized diagnostic tools and electronic troubleshooting.Welding, fabrication, and torch/plasma cutting experience.Ability to prioritize repairs based on job-site needs and equipment availability.Strong communication skills when working with operators, foremen, vendors, and management.Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.Work Environment and Physical RequirementsWork may be performed in a shop environment, outdoors, or at active construction sites.Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy parts and tools as needed.Must be comfortable working around heavy machinery, uneven terrain, noise, dust, grease, and changing weather conditions.Overtime, early starts, or emergency repairs may be required based on project needs.Compensation and Benefits$35-$45 per hoursFull-time employment with opportunities for overtime.Benefits, paid time off, 401k.
