Job Description

The Production Operator supports manufacturing operations by loading and unloading materials, assisting machine operators, and ensuring parts are sorted and handled safely and efficiently. This role involves working with small, lightweight parts that are sorted into crates, which may become heavy when full, and requires attention to detail, reliability, and a strong commitment to safety and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload materials and parts to support continuous production flow.
• Assist machine operators with daily production activities, including setting up and supplying machines as needed.
• Sort small, lightweight parts into crates accurately and efficiently.
• Handle crates that may become heavy once full, using safe lifting techniques and equipment as required.
• Perform basic machine operation tasks under guidance, ensuring equipment runs smoothly.
• Support general labor tasks such as cleaning work areas, organizing materials, and maintaining a tidy production environment.
• Assist with assembly tasks as needed to meet production goals.
• Operate forklifts safely when required, following all safety procedures and training.
• Package finished parts and products according to specifications and quality standards.
• Inspect parts for defects or quality issues and report any concerns promptly.
• Use hand tools and follow basic blueprint or work instruction guidance when required.
• Follow all safety policies, including proper use of steel-toe footwear and safety glasses.
• Adapt to changing production needs, including working overtime and adjusting to schedule changes when requested.

Essential Skills

• Experience in production, manufacturing, or general labor environments.
• Ability to assist with machine operation and support machine operators in daily tasks.
• History in assembly, picking, packing, or similar roles.
• Capability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
• Physical ability to lift and move crates that may become heavy when full.
• Basic skills in inspection to identify defective or nonconforming parts.
• Comfort using hand tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to read and follow simple instructions, including basic blueprint or work instruction references.
• Willingness and availability to work overtime, including 50–60 hours per week when required.
• Flexibility to adjust to schedule changes, including arriving early or staying late as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience operating forklifts in a production or warehouse setting.
• Prior experience in packaging and material handling.
• Familiarity with basic blueprint reading.
• Previous work as a machine operator, laborer, or in assembly, pick, and pack roles.
• Strong work ethic and reliability in attendance and punctuality.

Work Environment

This role is based in a production facility operating three shifts: first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:15 p.m., and third shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:15 a.m. You can expect to work significant overtime, often totaling 50–60 hours per week, and you may be asked to start early or stay late depending on production demands. The environment involves working around machinery, handling small parts, and occasionally moving heavier crates once they are full. Production tools may include hand tools, forklifts, packaging equipment, and basic inspection tools, with some tasks guided by simple blueprints or work instructions. Safety is a priority, and steel-toe footwear and safety glasses are required at all times in designated areas.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, KY.

The pay range for this position is $15.50 - $16.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Richmond,KY.
