City Vehicle Maintenance AssistantThis position assists in the maintenance and repair of all City vehicles and equipment. Salary: $22.3453 - $26.8401 hourly (DOQ) Schedule: TBDEssential Job FunctionsThe job functions listed herein are neither exclusive nor exhaustive but are intended to be illustrative of the types of tasks the employee will most likely be expected to perform on a regular basis. The employee may be asked to perform different or additional tasks than the ones listed here, as the needs of the employer and/or requirements of the position change.Assists in the diagnosis of malfunctions and in making repairs/adjustments to all automotive equipment to keep in good operating condition.Assists in preventative maintenance and repairs to all major systems on trucks, equipment and automobiles owned by the City.Keeps records of repairs and maintenance work.Assists in snow removal and salting, lawn mowing and other seasonal jobs.Assists in street sweeping and removal of dead animals.Assists with putting up barricades and temporary signage.Assists with flood control.Performs related duties as assigned.QualificationsGraduation from high school and at least 1 year of specialized training in automobile and equipment mechanics, plus at least 1-3 years of automotive mechanic experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:Knowledge of techniques and practices, tools, equipment and materials used in automotive mechanicsPreventative maintenance techniques and practicesIdentify occupational hazards to avoid or minimize risksAbility to understand and follow instructionsDiagnose operating malfunctions and make all necessary repairsOperate light to heavy equipmentUse all tools and equipment necessary to accomplish maintenance and repairPerform light to heavy physical task under varying weather conditionsKeep records and create reportsEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workersSkill in the operation of a variety of tools and equipment used in the performance of the essential job functionsOral and written communicationsNecessary Special RequirementsCDL with A, B, C and N (tanker) endorsements; valid Wisconsin driver license, ability to complete a pre-employment post offer physical and drug screen upon hire - including random drug and alcohol tests thereafter; must provide your own hand tools.Physical DemandsThe demands listed below are required in order to be successful in this role.
