Environmental Specialist

Job Description

The Environmental Specialist supports the Environmental Manager in the implementation and execution of environmental compliance programs, environmental monitoring activities, and sustainability initiatives. This position works closely with operations and maintenance personnel to ensure compliance with environmental requirements through field inspections, monitoring, data collection, incident response, corrective action tracking, and environmental stewardship activities. The role serves as a key field resource for maintaining compliance with applicable environmental permits, regulations, and company standards.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Knows, understands, and follows all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality policies, procedures, and requirements.
• Conducts routine environmental inspections and field observations to verify compliance with environmental permits, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Performs environmental sampling, monitoring, measurements, and data collection activities.
• Assists with stormwater, wastewater, waste management, air quality, spill prevention, and other environmental compliance programs.
• Supports environmental incident investigations, spill response activities, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
• Monitors environmental conditions throughout the facility and promptly communicates potential compliance concerns to management.
• Assists with environmental audits, assessments, and regulatory inspections by conducting field reviews, gathering records, and tracking corrective actions.
• Collects, organizes, and maintains environmental data, monitoring records, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
• Assists the Environmental Manager with implementation of permit requirements and environmental compliance initiatives.
• Tracks environmental action items and follows up with responsible departments to ensure timely completion.
• Provides guidance and support to employees and contractors regarding environmental procedures and best practices.
• Participates in environmental training activities and helps promote environmental awareness throughout the facility.
• Maintains environmental equipment, monitoring devices, and related records as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Associates degree in Environmental Studies or related field preferred but not required
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and requirements for the industry
• Ability to operate forklift and other small equipment.
• Ability to effectively respond to environmental incidents
• Ability to create and complete reports within deadlines as required
• Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) & using CRM software
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate in English, verbally and in writing. Skills will be used to produce quality reports and thorough instructions and directions
• Must have reliable transportation to and from work
