CNC LATHE SETUP & OPERATOR

Algonquin Industries is seeking an experienced CNC Set Up Machinist in Hopedale to set up and operate Mori Seiki CNC lathes, Okuma Howa CNC lathes, and Star CNC Swiss machines with live tooling experience preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Apply knowledge of basic CNC machining and basic machining methods in a precision manufacturing environment
• Implement the company quality management system while working to established procedures flow charts work instructions and continuous improvement initiatives
• Upload and download machine programs efficiently from the file server
• Gather all necessary tooling and fixtures required for particular jobs from travelers and set up sheets
• Set up machines with proper chucks and fixtures according to traveler and set up sheets load tooling and set proper geometry offsets
• Run first piece production to ensure that programs match operations specified in travel and set up sheets
• Perform basic inspection using personal or shop equipment before presenting first articles to quality control
• Maintain open communication with quality control to ensure precision manufacturing standards
• Make adjustments and fine tune operations after first articles to ensure optimum machining efficiency
• Brief operators on specific characteristics or in process inspections required during production runs
• Document all necessary production and quality information once procedures are running
• Practice proper safety procedures and good work practices in accordance with OSHA regulations
• Keep immediate work areas and aisles clear of obstacles and practice good housekeeping
• Clean and remove all tools equipment materials gages prints setup sheets products and jaws upon completion of production jobs
• Check all raw materials verify set up documentation and conduct area inspections when starting new jobs
• Uphold the quality policy of Algonquin and Hi-Tech while working towards corporate production goals
• Ensure production cycles and efficiencies are met or exceeded daily
• Ensure the company quality management system abides by customer internal ISO 9001 and regulatory requirements
• Abide strictly by OSHA safety regulations and manufacturing standards

Related Experience and Education

• Minimum of 3 years of related job experience in CNC machining and set up

Other Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• CNC programming experience is a plus but not necessary
• Knowledge of live tooling lathes is a plus
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with exceptional math and organizational skills
• Ensure all components meet specifications using appropriate measuring tools for verification
• Possess strong interpersonal skills and high attention to detail
• Good work ethic and flexibility to work any shift
• Ability to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment and meet strict deadlines
• Strong analytical background including manufacturing principles
