Clinical Research Manager

Job Summary The Clinical Research Manager designs, plans, and directs administrative, regulatory, personnel, clinical, and financial operations for the Memory and Aging Center Alzheimer’s Disease and Frontotemporal Dementia Clinical Trials Program. The Manager works closely with senior management, including Principal Investigators, the Program Director, and Department leadership, to develop short‑ and long‑term strategies to develop effective treatments for Alzheimer’s Disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, Frontotemporal Dementia, and related disorders. The Manager directs subordinate staff to achieve broad objectives and functions with a high degree of autonomy in executing research for this large program. Responsibilities Provide operational, clinical, and administrative leadership for all clinical research operations, ensuring the integrity of research, participant safety, and compliance with budgets, schedules, and performance requirements. Develop clinical research processes, policies, and guidelines; evaluate new trials for feasibility; oversee regulatory submissions, study start‑up, and monitoring; and manage action plans when standards are not met. Manage program resources, including revenue assurance from sponsors, budgeting, and financial planning, and present budgeting projections to leadership. Interact regularly with senior management on clinical research matters, negotiate, influence, and promote the program’s role within the institution and in professional communities. Approve salary actions, promotions, hires, reclasses, and terminations; develop training, onboarding, and evaluation processes for staff. Establish training, supervisory, and evaluation standards that meet organizational requirements, focusing on participant safety, regulatory compliance, and research ethics. Qualifications Master’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience or training. At least eight years of relevant experience, including seven in a lead/supervisory role. In‑depth academic knowledge and applied background in clinical research philosophy with at least two years of experience running complex trials. Broad knowledge of clinical research and drug development concepts, federal, state, and local laws, and industry requirements, as well as clinical and patient safety standards. At least two years of team‑management and employee‑supervision experience. Excellent ability to establish collegial relationships with investigators, research partners, industry, and key opinion leaders; strong collaborative and persuasive skills. Strong problem‑solving abilities, initiative, and the capacity to devise solutions where no precedent exists. Preferred Qualifications Certified Clinical Research Professional. Registered Nurse. At least two years of experience working with patients with dementia or other neurodegenerative disease in an academic research setting. Advanced practice nursing certifications and Basic Life Support. Certified Clinical Research Professional (duplicate mentioned).
