Athletic Director - High School (26-27)

KIPP Public Schools Northern California

2026-27 Teaching Positions – Athletic Director Our Athletic Director is actively engaged in the Bayview-Hunters Point community, and embraces the mission and values of KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory. The AD is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and managing supervision for all athletics events involving KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory. The Athletic Director operates in compliance with the state regulating agency, operational direction of KIPP Northern California Public Schools leadership, section and state athletics governing body bylaws, and state and local regulatory agencies. The AD supports the principal in implementing the school’s Cultural Vision and fosters a culture of high expectations. They also build strong partnerships with families and the community, and create a safe environment that welcomes, reflects, and supports the diversity of the student population and communities served. All Athletic Directors serve in an instructional capacity unique to their school setting, and all KIPP educators hold the following values as part of their practice: Teach with Purpose: Our teachers play a key role in bringing to life the academic and cultural visions of our schools. This includes daily lesson planning, intentional curriculum design, and regular data analysis to help all students learn and grow. Our teachers also implement Social Emotional Learning lessons and Restorative Practices to create a joyful, inclusive classroom community. Support and Collaboration: Our teachers work closely with the school’s Leadership Team, including their Instructional Coach, to ensure students are learning and growing. This includes weekly meetings, and ongoing feedback so we can continue to grow in our instructional practices. Commitment to Anti-Racism: We are committed to creating an anti-racist school community. We engage in ongoing development to reflect on their own identities and experiences and how that shapes us as people, educators, and leaders. As a community, we regularly analyze our school systems, academics, culture, data etc. to reflect on our progress towards being an anti-racist organization and to make changes to address the needs of our community. Preferred Qualifications Athletic Director & Teacher Experience / Licensing / Education At least 2 to 3 years of High School Head Coaching experience required Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report) Bachelor’s Degree (major in kinesiology or dance preferred) Experience in administration Experience in a comparable high school setting Hold a B.A/B.S degree from a regionally accredited institution Meet one of the following eligibility requirements: Hold a valid teaching credential Eligibility for a Provisional Internship Permit Eligibility for a Short Term Staff Permit Knowledge / Skills Required Superior communication, organizational skills, and ability to work with diverse groups Administrative experience and proficiency using Google Suite (email, calendars, docs) Ability to coach coaches, and support their growth and development Ability to communicate professionally and in a timely manner via phone and email Commitment to KIPP mission and vision Commitment to being an anti‑racist educator Believe all students can achieve at the highest academic levels Possess strong content area knowledge Strong skills building relationships with students, families, and communities Communicate well with students, families, and colleagues Have proficient knowledge of Google Suite applications (Google Classroom, Hangout, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) Have the ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in‑class and distance learning when needed (i.e. Zoom, Nearpod) Essential Functions and Responsibilities Organizes and administers the program of interscholastic athletics Maintains a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment that incorporates Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning. Implements culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe environment for all students to learn & achieve. Communicates regularly with staff, students, families, and other key stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships. Attends and engages in weekly Professional Development and other Communities of Practice to continue learning and growing as an educator. Supervises: Fall Sports Girls Volleyball – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Cross Country – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Winter Sports Girls Basketball – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Boys Basketball – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Spring Sports Baseball – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Track & Field – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Boys Volleyball – 1 Head Coach, 1 Assistant Coach Trains, hires, and professionally develops coaches. Facilitates the recruitment and selection of coaches and provides supervision and support. Establishes and executes a program of Professional Development for the coaching staff. Manages external coaches HR items and pay (onboarding, approving timesheets, ensuring compliance items are completed, etc.). Assists coaches in developing academic interventions in alignment with KIPP policies and enforces academic expectations set forth by the CIF. Collaborates with head coaches to schedule all interscholastic athletics events, including contests and practices, matching the competitive level of the teams. Manages all administrative aspects of athletic programming. Handles distribution and collection of uniforms and equipment. Establishes supervision policies and practices for athletic facilities. Coordinates with outside groups and the city for off‑site facilities rentals as needed. Adheres to federal, state, league, and school regulations governing programming and participation. Develops and updates the Department Handbook for staff, parents, and student‑athletes, including the vision of the program. Ensures records of all interscholastic contests and sport‑specific performance records are kept. Prepares and administers the Athletics Department budget and fundraising efforts, tracking all spending and ensuring equitable distribution within each program. Facilitates prompt submission of reports, forms, and fees due to the CIF, CCS, and PSAL. Ensures compliance with Title IX and gender equity. Approves and assists in planning and executing trips related to athletic activities. Coordinates school‑provided student transportation. Represents the school at sectional and league meetings. Adheres to league, section, state, and school eligibility requirements for participation. Develops and creates equitable scheduling systems for games, practices, meetings, and travel. Ensures equitable access for all programs in regards to facilities, funds, and attention from the AD. Plans and executes seasonal events to celebrate student and community athletic and academic achievements. Updates and communicates athletics news through calendars, social media, and website platforms to promote school spirit and celebrate students. Runs systems for Academic Reports and reviews coaches and families regarding student eligibility. Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork. Develops teamwork, morale, sportsmanship, courtesy, fair play, academic excellence, and strict adherence to training and conduct rules. Promotes the view that winning is important but secondary to good sportsmanship and athlete welfare. Represents the school in an exemplary fashion. Always acts in the best interest of students and manages disciplinary systems consistent with the mission of the athletics program. Continually develops professionally and learns best practices of being an athletic administrator through NIAAA and other organizations. Promotes health and safety guidelines in accordance with KIPP King and League regulations. Obtains/Maintains required NFHS and First Aid/CPR certifications required by the PSAL and CIF. Completes required safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention through SafeSchools and NFHS Learn. Annual certifications: mandated reporter, bloodborne pathogens, concussion in sports, sudden cardiac arrest, heat illness prevention ( At time of hire: Fundamentals of Coaching or certificate of completion from previous season. Attends seasonal informational meetings regarding the sport. Academic Achievement & College Readiness Monitor student-athlete academic progress, eligibility, and graduation readiness. Partner with counselors, teachers, and families to provide support for student-athletes. Promote a culture where academics come first and athletics serves as a pathway to college and career success. Student Recruitment & Enrollment Partner with school leadership to use athletics as a strategy for student recruitment, retention, and community engagement. Build relationships with local schools, youth sports programs, and community organizations to expand participation and awareness of SFCP. Support recruitment events, family outreach, and summer engagement opportunities to help achieve enrollment goals. PE Teacher – Expected Instructional Responsibilities Daily lesson planning and long term planning using curriculum and resources to align with KIPP’s academic vision and goals. Analyze data regularly to identify student academic trends and inform instructional practices. Maintain a positive, warm, inclusive, rigorous, and engaging classroom environment that incorporates Restorative Practices and Social Emotional Learning. Implement culturally responsive classroom management strategies to create a safe environment for all students to learn & achieve. Communicate regularly with staff, students, families, and other key stakeholders to ensure strong partnerships. Attend and engage in weekly Professional Development and other Communities of Practice to continue learning and growing as an educator. Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands Physical: Ability to navigate office and school campuses, hold meetings in different spaces, and sit most of the day. Tradtionally, much of the day involves sitting. Ability to access and utilize technology. Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 20‑40 lbs. Mental: Stress of deadlines and normal work standards, ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods of time, read, calculate, perform routine math problems, memorize and recall objects and people. Environmental: Gym or field environment will usually contain participants and spectators. Location of gyms and fields will vary. In an emergency context (e.g., pandemic), the season may be postponed or canceled. School and classroom environments subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations. Classification This is a full‑time, exempt position on a full school year calendar cycle, located at our school sites.
