About the Position

Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapy Specialty: Adult Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent respiratory therapy experience License: BLS - AHA required, state license required, or willing to apply for one within 72 hours of acceptance of offer Certifications: RRT - NBRC certification preferred, CRT considered Must-Have: Min 2 years recent respiratory therapy experience Level 1 trauma and ICU experience; ER experience preferred Experience working in a facility with 300+ beds Description: The scope of work for a respiratory therapist includes assessment, therapeutic intervention, and education for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders or associated complications. Job duties include respiratory therapy assessments and protocols, arterial punctures and blood gas analysis, ventilator and NIV therapy management, and medication delivery. Responsibilities also include airway clearance, assisting with intubations, bedside trach placement, bedside bronchoscopy, tracheostomy changes and decannulation, extubations, emergency response teams, ICU rounds, and patient intrahospital transport. Equipment utilized includes Epic EMR, Omnicell medication cabinet, ventilators, and various respiratory therapy devices. Clinicians must have strong communication skills as they are in constant communication with the healthcare team. Clinicians will work in a fast-paced environment and must be able to manage quick changes in patient conditions. Additionally, they must be willing to help coworkers and ask for help when needed. Rotating shifts include every other weekend and holidays with primarily 12-hour shifts. Clinicians will not work alone; each shift has a charge therapist along with several other therapists on a typical shift. Opportunity to pick up extra shifts is available. May float to other departments as needed. Orientation includes lab orientation with education staff and preceptor shifts with the unit therapists.
