Job Title: Press Machine Operator / Press Mechanic

Job Description

This role is responsible for maintaining the safe, efficient operation of production presses while supporting production goals, product quality standards, and workplace safety requirements. You will perform troubleshooting, mechanical adjustments, routine maintenance, and housekeeping activities to ensure presses run reliably and consistently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all press safety functions operate correctly before and during production.
• Maintain assigned presses at maximum efficiency and required production speeds.
• Assist with loading and staging metal rolls for production runs.
• Monitor and maintain press lubrication systems, including inspecting lubrication and mist systems at the start and end of each shift.
• Perform mechanical adjustments and troubleshoot equipment issues, including blow-off adjustments and replacements, pressure adjustments, scrap system troubleshooting, and material handling and setup adjustments.
• Carry out other press-related repairs and modifications as needed to support continuous operation.
• Ensure timely equipment startup at the start of each shift and after breaks to minimize downtime.
• Respond quickly to production issues and equipment concerns to keep lines running smoothly.
• Assist with material flow and general production support activities as required.
• Complete production, downtime, and material usage documentation accurately and neatly.
• Produce quality products while following all safety, sanitation, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area around assigned equipment.
• Keep production areas free of scrap materials, cardboard, metal, and other potential hazards.
• Remove waste materials and dispose of them in designated containers.
• Eliminate tripping hazards and maintain clear walkways to support a safe work area.
• Follow established housekeeping standards to promote a safe and efficient working environment.
• Follow all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) practices.
• Comply with all Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Adhere to lockout/tagout procedures and machine safety requirements when working on equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or equipment issues immediately to help prevent incidents.
• Perform repetitive hand and arm movements while maintaining product quality standards.
• Support packaging, packing, and general labor tasks as needed, including packaging and quality inspection, picking, and order picking activities.
• Identify product defects and quality issues and take appropriate action to maintain standards.
• Follow written and verbal instructions to complete production tasks accurately and efficiently.

Essential Skills

• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to solve equipment and production-related problems in a manufacturing setting.
• Familiarity with hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and related equipment.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify product defects.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours per shift.
• Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, twist, reach, and climb.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
• Ability to work around moving machinery and industrial equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, 11 to 20 pounds regularly or occasionally, and up to 50 pounds periodically or occasionally.
• Ability to work on uneven surfaces and in varying environmental conditions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
• Experience working with mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Basic preventative maintenance experience is an advantage.
• Experience in packaging, production, general labor, and packing is beneficial.
• Experience with packaging and quality inspection, picking, and order picking is helpful.
• Prior manufacturing, production, packaging, or warehouse experience preferred but not required.
• Dependable attendance and a strong work ethic.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety and ability to identify and resolve production issues quickly.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility with exposure to moving machinery and equipment, frequent loud noise levels, and environmental factors such as dust, fumes, mist, and varying temperatures. The environment is fast-paced and production-driven, requiring frequent standing and walking for up to 8 hours per shift, as well as regular bending, twisting, reaching, climbing, and repetitive hand movements. Work takes place around industrial equipment and on potentially uneven surfaces. Personal protective equipment is required based on the work area, and employees must consistently follow safety equipment requirements. Ear plugs are required, and visible piercings are not permitted. In some packing areas, employees may wear shorts, and steel-toe footwear is not required for packing duties, though other roles may require different footwear based on safety needs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glasgow, MO.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.25/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
