Camp Counselor

This position organizes and implements assigned daily activities ensuring quality programming for camp participants. This position reports to the Camp Program Supervisor.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Maintains constant supervision of campers throughout all activities, including structured and unstructured play.
• Executes age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate activities that are progressive and challenging to each age level.
• Ensure lesson plans are followed to encourage consistency in program experience for all campers.
• Support implementation of theme days, trips and special event activities.
• Models appropriate behavior and uses positive behavior management techniques.
• Assists in maintaining an adequate level of supplies (i.e., first-aid) and report any shortages.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment for camp participants.
• Communicate with camp leadership team regarding any changes to the daily schedule and keep fellow Counselors, campers and families informed as needed.
• Participates in staff meetings as necessary to ensure effective and timely communication.
• Maintain and submit program records (i.e., behavior reports, accident reports, supply needs and participant forms).
• Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to, report repairs to Recreation Supervisor.
• Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed and adheres to all departmental and Village safety policies.
• Advises supervisor of hazards and corrective actions.
• Assist camp leadership team in planning camp curriculum activities and projects
• Provides families with relevant information regarding their camper(s), intended to provide support to families.
• Perform curb-side camper drop off/pick up responsibilities.
• Follow sign in/out procedures ensuring all policies are followed.
• Serve as a mentor for first year Camp Counselors
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Experience in camp programming or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. At least 16 years of age Must possess or obtain CPR/First Aid certification upon hire.

Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities. Work has exposure to environmental conditions including bodily fluids. Work is generally in a noisy setting.
