Transport - Mechanic

The Mechanic will perform the highest quality maintenance service on hazmat (fuel) and grain hauling transport vehicles while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES BY COMPETENCY

Business Results Orientation Ensure a safe working environment and promptly report any safety accidents or violations to management Implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize unplanned expenditures Adhere to Wallis Companies’ safety programs/policies and proactively work to achieve and maintain the highest safety standards Utilize tools and technology provided effectively and efficiently Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition Perform monthly inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure regulatory compliance Serve on Emergency Response Team to assist in the event of a vehicle accident or spill Maintain regular attendance and follow designated safety practices Perform other duties not listed as required Communication Communicate with Maintenance Manager, Dispatch Manager and Terminal Managers regarding the status of truck maintenance required Communicate in a professional and effective manner with internal and external customers Coordinate effectively with all parties involved to repair equipment and return it to service promptly with minimal interruption when taking equipment out of service due to safety hazards Build cooperative working relationships with coworkers and vendors through open communication and ongoing support Report any personal injuries or any damage done to company property or vehicles within policy timeframes Customer Service Orientation Maintain professional image of self and vehicle Exhibit a professional, friendly and helpful attitude while on the job Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs on transport equipment when needed on a 24 hour/day basis Developing Talent Attend training seminars to further enhance professional development Work as a team member to help improve individual, department and organizational productivity Develop and maintain skills necessary to be successful in this position Provide experience, skills and expertise as needed to coworkers Safety Attend and participate in safety meetings Work diligently to correct safety deficiencies in a timely manner Complete safety training required for this position Follow all safety policies and procedures Inform Supervisor or Manager of unsafe conditions and behaviors, and recommend how to correct or eliminate them Report all work-related injuries immediately, and seek Supervisor/HR approval to authorize medical treatment Cooperate with the medical provider, and follow the treatment plan and Return-to-Work Program Work to avoid preventable accidents Comply with all OSHA workplace regulations Technical Expertise Perform truck maintenance and trailer inspections to maintain compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the Maintenance Manager Maintain knowledge of and follow all DOT rules and regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, OSHA regulations, and any other regulations required Maintain knowledge of equipment, parts, and required inventory Purchase and maintain appropriate parts inventory, ensuring inventory is stocked at an appropriate level Remove trucks from operation when safety hazards are present, and coordinate repair promptly Adhere to all Wallis Companies safety policies and report all safety incidents to supervisor immediately

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct: This position has no direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Required: Equivalent to high school diploma. Preferred: Completion of technical school program in mechanics, vehicle maintenance, or related field. Experience: Over 3 years up to and including 5 years in vehicle maintenance, transportation, or related field. Language Skills: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English in a manner that is sufficient for effective communication with groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Skills and Abilities: Intensive knowledge of a specialty field and the use of a wide range of procedures. Ability to use own judgment in the analysis of facts and circumstances surrounding individual problems and transactions and in the determination of actions to be taken within the limits of standard or accepted practice. Duties require thorough knowledge of DOT regulations and safety requirements. Ability to proficiently use computer and basic math skills. Technology, Tools, and Equipment: Computer, Microsoft Office, Transportation/Maintenance software, telephone, copier/fax/printer, barcode scanner, hand tools. Certificates, Licenses and/or Registrations MVR in compliance with company policy Class A CDL and DOT medical certification Brake Certification MACS Certification ISX15 Certification PACCAR MX13 and MX11 Certification PACCAR AMT Certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Physical demands include lifting up to 100 pounds, climbing or balancing under vehicles, standing, walking, and communicating via telephone system and diagnostic tools. Employees must also be able to manipulate hand tools and perform mechanical work on vehicles under hood and vehicle body.
