Application Procedure: Apply online POSITION TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) DEPARTMENT: Special Services REPORTS TO: Classroom teacher, Principal, School Nurse (RN), Coordinator of Special Education JOB GOAL: The LPN will assess the degree of significance regarding the health issues in students with chronic health conditions, and handle any medical emergencies. The LPN is employed to contribute in the implementation of the total care for disabled students. The LPN works with the special education teacher to help students develop, strengthen, and/or maintain aspects of self-care. The productive LPN will be an instructional partner, assistant, and a knowledgeable professional during a crisis situation as well as a positive role model for students. The LPN will assist with physical, social, communication, and intellectual skills as well medical needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Give medications and tube feedings as scheduled on IHSP or IEP Give treatments including, but not limited to, suctioning and physical therapy as scheduled on IHSP or IEP Chart tasks, medications, etc. in a timely manner, using proper forms Assist students with daily tasks (As assigned by classroom teacher) Individual tutoring as needed with students Assist students with personal hygiene Work with small group activities Assist students with behavior issues Do classroom laundry or clean up as needed Assist teacher with classroom activities Perform other duties as assigned Length of Contract: One hundred seventy-four (174) contract days. Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Support
Employees of Edmond (SEE). Hours may be adjusted according to the student need.(added 2018-19) Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Coordinator of Special Education with direct supervision of a Registered School Nurse (RN) in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies and state law. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

Must have graduated from an accredited LPN school. Must be CPR Certified. Pediatric nursing experience is preferred for all positions. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: A valid license for a Practical Nurse, from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. CONFIDENTIALITY/PERSONAL CONTACTS: The LPN comes in contact with parents, students, and school personnel on a daily basis. Confidentiality regarding the children and families must be adhered to at all times. Maintenance of a professional attitude and ability to communicate well are a must. All nursing care and classroom activities should be conducted with the utmost, accuracy and awareness of the personal dignity of others. LANGUAGE SKILLS: The LPN must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, and to write simple correspondence. The LPN will need to have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patrons, students, and other employees of the school district. MATHEMATICAL SKILL: The LPN must have the ability to perform dosage calculation with a variety of prescriptions medications. A working knowledge of fractions, percentages and ratios will be needed. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public. REASONING SKILLS: TheLPN should have theability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. It will be necessary to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or scheduled format.
GUIDELINES: The LPN works within the policies established by the Edmond Public School District, the Nurse Practice Act, and Administrative and Health Services procedures. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The LPN must have the ability to assess the degree and significance of the health problems in students with chronic health conditions. Knowledge of signs and symptoms of impending emergencies are mandatory. The LPN must observe, evaluate, and report reactions to medications and treatments given at school and secure emergency care as needed. Other classroom related activities require the ability to make responsible judgments. Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and school personnel. Dress in appropriate clothing (Scrubs preferred). Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, and Board of Education policies. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individual with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The LPN must be in good physical health. Regular attendance is required for continuity of care. Agility and ease in movement are required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The LPN must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to work in a high-stress, fast-paced environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT :
