Location: 1777 Montreal Circle, Tucker, GA 30084
Contract Duration: 3+ months contract with possible extension
Hours: 40 hours/week
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Shift: Third Shift
Hours: 9:00 PM - 6:30 AM EST
Required Credentials/Certifications: ASCP, MT, AAB

Job Summary:

The Technical Lab - Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform laboratory testing and related technical functions in accordance with established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. The successful candidate must have a solid understanding of basic laboratory testing, quality control and quality assurance, and the ability to work effectively across multiple laboratory and computer systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintenance of patient test records.
• Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Analyze specimens using approved testing procedures and department SOPs.
• Review and release test results.
• Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety guidelines .
• Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document:
  • Quality control activities
  • Instrument and procedural calibrations
  • Equipment and instrument maintenance
• Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems do not meet acceptable performance levels.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting and take appropriate corrective action or immediately notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
• Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• Follow department procedures for reporting STAT and critical results to clients.
• Answer questions from customers or other laboratory personnel, when applicable.
• Maintain complete records of all testing performed on-site.
• Maintain the general appearance and organization of the department.
• Verify reagent and test kit received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates when applicable.
• Review and train on new laboratory procedures.
• Attend monthly department meetings and additional training or educational meetings as required.
• Participate in all applicable safety training sessions.
• Know the location and contents of the safety manual and the location and proper use of applicable safety equipment.
• Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, when needed.
• Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing.
• Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) .
• Knowledge of laboratory operations and testing procedures.
• Ability to work with multiple computer systems.
• Strong computer skills and ability to adapt to different laboratory systems.
• Ability to establish work priorities and handle multiple procedures simultaneously.
• Ability to interact effectively with other departments.
• Good customer service skills, as contact with clients may be required.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Education Requirements:

One of the following educational backgrounds is required/preferred:

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology preferred; OR
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Biology ; OR
• Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology ; OR
• Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 , published March 14, 1990.

Education Documentation:

• Foreign-educated candidates: Detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation) is required.
• U.S.-educated candidates: Detailed original transcript is required.

Work Experience:

• 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.
• Candidates with a BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology must have a minimum of 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in highly complex testing .
• National and state licensure is required where applicable.
