Senior Staff Accountant

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a Senior Staff Accountant who will be accountable for program accounting, special projects, and other analytical projects as assigned. The hybrid work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.

Salary: $72,000 per year

Job duties and responsibilities include:

• Accurately prepares and posts all journal entries for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Reviews financial statements for compliance with internal controls, accounting standards, and budget variances.
• Assists with preparation of annual budgets and periodic projections for assigned programs.
• Performs regular visits to assigned programs to assess program needs and work together on budget-related matters.
• Prepares documents and schedules for internal and external audits, ensuring all financial records are accurate and complete.
• Maintains clear and consistent communication with supervisor, program staff, funding sources, and other relevant parties.
• Delivers timely and comprehensive updates on exceptions, follow-up actions, and account statuses to the supervisor and other key stakeholders.
• Ensures all internal and external deadlines are met, including reporting, budget preparations, and audit-related tasks.
• Actively participates in staff meetings, required internal training sessions, and attends external meetings and training courses as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Program specific duties include:

• Ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements for programs serving the senior population, including low-income senior housing programs.
• Ensuring full compliance with HUD and other funding regulations, while meeting all reporting deadlines.
• Reconciling balance sheet accounts, including cash and revenue / accounts receivable for tenants and HUD, resolving discrepancies promptly and confirming reconciliations are accurate and aligned with all requirements.
• Processing move-outs and maintaining security deposit reconciliations for assigned programs, ensuring accuracy and in compliance with guidelines.
• Preparing and submitting required audited financial statements and footnotes to audit reports for assigned programs on time and ensuring complete, accurate and in compliance with audit standards.

Education and experience requirements include:

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance.
• Three (3) years relevant experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
