Description:

The Labor and Delivery unit is a 15-bed facility. The unit follows inpatient rooming with infants. All infants will be in rooms with mothers. Newborn nursery will be utilized when necessary for infants requiring specialized care. Responsibilities include supporting mothers during labor and delivery. Skills required include monitoring fetal heart rates, managing labor pain, and providing post-delivery care. This role involves assisting with both vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections. Communication will be primarily through the SBAR method. The unit encourages breastfeeding support and education for new parents. Knowledge of medication systems and charting systems is preferred. The registered nurse will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team. Patient age groups range from neonates to adults. Flexibility and teamwork are essential for success in this position. Traveler candidates should have prior labor and delivery experience. Additional skills such as amnioinfusion, postpartum hemorrhage management, and newborn assessment are preferred. This position involves regular patient assessments, education, and care coordination. The candidate must be able to handle a variety of obstetric situations competently. Effective pain management and patient advocacy are vital components of this role. Nurses are expected to engage in continuous learning and professional development. Adhering to safety protocols and infection control standards is mandatory.
