About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Department Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 16 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years with strong Emergency Department experience License: Registered Nurse Certifications: BLS ACLS NIH PALS ENCP (preferred) TNCC (preferred) De-escalation training (MOAB or CPI preferred) Must-Have: Basic Emergency Department skills, stroke, trauma, and pediatric experience Chest tubes, cardiac rhythm interpretations, line management (central lines) Description: The facility operates as a Level IV Trauma Center and a Primary Stroke Center. The average number of Emergency Department patients per day ranges from 64 to 80, with busy times reaching 80 to 100. Patient types include 10% Behavioral Health, 25% Geriatric, 15% Pediatric, and 50% Adult. Common conditions treated involve trauma, cardiac issues, neuro, respiratory issues, mental illness, and general medical conditions. Conventional PPE is provided along with N95 masks and PAPRs. Patient ratios during the day shift are typically 1:4 and may flex to 1:5 during high census. Support staff includes dedicated Emergency Department Technicians with varying ratios throughout the day. Emergency Department Technicians are capable of performing U/S guided IVs, EKG, and paperwork for transfers. A charge nurse is available who may assist with triage. The charting system is EPIC, along with Alaris and Pyxis for medication management. Floating to other units is rare, and you will not need to take a patient assignment when floated. You will participate in a weekend rotation, scheduled every other weekend. Shift times are: Days: 0645-1915 Swing: 1045-2315 Nights: 1845-0715 You must be available to work during holidays, specifically 2 shifts on holidays. Scrub color is flexible but must remain professional. The work environment is fast-paced with high acuity. Utilization in the department is approximately 25%.
