Overview Physician (Psychiatry) Schofield Barracks, Hawaii About the Position This position is with Defense Health Agency located at the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic, Psychiatry Services, on Schofield Barracks, HI. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Responsibilities Provide treatment services including inpatient, consultation liaison services, partial hospitalization, day programs, emergency psychiatric services, tele‑psychiatric services, routine/intensive outpatient services. Develop treatment plans and provide appropriate therapeutic treatment services that may include medication management, various individual therapy modalities, and group therapy. Monitor treatment through evidence‑based medicine and alter course of treatment providing follow‑up care for adult patients with mental health and behavioral disorders. Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and psychotherapeutic treatment. Collaborate with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving rare, complicated, and multifaceted cases that require advanced treatments. Provide professional consultation, supervision, and collaborative medical support to other professional staff such as psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers. Serve as member of local Medical Evaluation Boards for assessment and determination of duty. Conduct training and provide supervision over psychiatric residents, interns, medical students, psychology interns, and other medical and mental health trainees. Makes recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features while serving on committees or working groups that review and establish new treatment guidelines or update policy for mental health across the service component. Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and peer review programs. Serve as member of the professional medical staff and provide advisory and consultative services on various local and national meetings, committees, conferences, and/or boards. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Basic Requirement For Physician (Psychiatry): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre‑medical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one‑year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Residency, Experience, and Training: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Psychiatry) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved. Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by the position specialty, grade, and location. Education: FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
