Police Dispatcher

The City of Tomball will be accepting applications for a Police Dispatcher. This role will responsible for answering and dispatching police and fire, 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls as well as various other duties as needed in support of the departmentReports To Dispatch SupervisorPositions Supervised NoneDispatcher functions include but are not limited to the following.Dispatch Center: Using a computer aided dispatch system, receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service. Determine nature and location of emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.Success Framework. The following list of knowledge, skills, and abilities have been identified by our team as building blocks towards efficiency and effectiveness in this role.Using a computer-aided dispatch system, receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service. Determine nature and location of emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.Maintain contact with all units on assignment.Monitor direct emergency alarms.Answer non-emergency calls for assistance.Enter, update, and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems.Greet and provide information to the general public regarding laws, ordinances, calls for service, fingerprints and/or other records request, impounded vehicles, directions, etc..Receive money for fines and bonds for local charges and other agencies, write receipts and post the data to ledgers or books.Receive requests for information regarding vehicular registration, driving records, and warrant information, and provide pertinent data.Monitor several complex public safety radio frequencies.Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones and computer systems.Other duties as assigned.Equipment and Tools commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.Computer skills.Work Environment or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.The work is typically performed indoors in an office or court setting.Work may involve potentially life threatening exposure to extreme temperatures, humidity, noise, chemical/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.May regularly be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.* Physical Abilities. Bilingual is highly desirable.Certifications Basic Telecommunication certification is desirable or must be obtained within one year.Licensing Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Texas motor vehicle operator's license. #J-18808-Ljbffr
