RN Clinical Nurse II-OR Per Diem - Children's Operating Room

Position Summary UNC Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse II) to join the Children’s Operating Room (OR) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This per diem OR nursing role provides the opportunity to care for pediatric surgical patients in a Level I Trauma, academic medical center. The OR consists of six operating suites, averaging 20–25 surgical cases per day. OR nurses are cross‑trained to support multiple pediatric specialty services. Assess readiness of patient/family/caregivers and developmental level affecting learning. Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, revise care plans as needed, discuss with interdisciplinary team and communicate relevant information for continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems; perform bedside testing; utilize nursing standards, policies, and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult resources regarding complex care issues. Leadership – Develop professional growth goals, obtain feedback, participate in unit goals, performance improvement activities, cost‑effective care, and utilize communication systems. Patient Assessment – Recognize data from complex situations, determine priorities, include physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs, synthesize data for communication, anticipate discharge needs, and develop supportive relationships with families. Planning – Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update plan of care, use multidisciplinary resources, address cultural and ethnic issues, prioritize tasks. Research – Read relevant journals, bring ideas and questions to staff for assessment. Qualifications Education: Graduation from a school of professional nursing. Licensure/Certification: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Experience: Minimum one (1) year of nursing experience.
