the client seeks a civic-minded, visionary, and seasoned Executive Director to lead the next chapter of a major public art program. Building on decades of innovation and community impact, the role sits at the intersection of creativity, community, and civic outcomes, with a focus on championing artists and neighborhoods by transforming public spaces into storytelling-driven projects. the Executive Director will help advance the organization’s legacy while guiding its evolution and expanding its ability to build pride, spark dialogue, and make culture visible in everyday life. in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, the city, artists, community leaders, and a multidisciplinary team, the Executive Director will set and execute strategic direction, promote a compelling vision for public art, and strengthen the organization’s infrastructure to support excellence in program delivery. responsibilities also include providing disciplined financial, operational, and personnel leadership, developing sustainable systems, supporting staff growth, and ensuring long-term resilience and artistic excellence. the organization’s core areas include public art and civil engagement, art education, behavioral health programming, and restorative justice, along with producing thousands of public artworks in collaboration with communities. the successful candidate will be a visible and trusted civic leader who brings creativity, integrity, and a collaborative approach to maintain a high profile locally and nationally. they are expected to be a confident fundraiser who can navigate civic and philanthropic landscapes, diversify revenue streams, and manage major relationships. the role also calls for the ability to build and steward partnerships while sustaining the program’s civic, community, and social impact.
