Director, Membership Growth & Engagement

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Membership Growth & Engagement based in United States. This senior leadership role owns the strategy and performance of professional membership across the full member lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through engagement, renewal, and retention. You will translate member insights, market trends, and analytics into measurable growth strategies and compelling membership value propositions. The role combines strategic planning, lifecycle marketing, data analysis, technology enablement, and cross-functional collaboration. You will lead a two-person membership team while partnering closely with marketing, education, advocacy, events, field teams, and other stakeholders. Success will be measured through membership growth, retention, engagement, and dues revenue, supported by clear KPIs and disciplined execution. The position offers an opportunity to modernize membership programs, develop new growth channels, and strengthen professional engagement within a mission-driven healthcare environment. The role is remote, with travel of up to 10% for major meetings and selected professional conferences. Accountabilities - Own and execute the professional membership growth strategy and annual plan, establishing targets for acquisition, retention, engagement, and dues revenue. - Define and continuously refine membership value propositions by professional discipline, career stage, and practice setting, including recommendations around membership models, tiers, and dues. - Identify new growth opportunities through underserved professional segments, institutional and group memberships, strategic partnerships, and trainee-to-professional conversion programs. - Design and manage the complete member lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, renewal, reinstatement, and win-back initiatives.

- Lead member engagement programs spanning exclusive content, resources, networking opportunities, webinars, and professional events. - Establish member feedback and listening mechanisms, using surveys and stakeholder input to improve satisfaction, loyalty, and the overall member experience. - Own membership data integrity, reporting, KPI dashboards, segmentation, engagement scoring, and performance analysis across acquisition, renewal, engagement, and revenue. - Use analytics, automation, and AI-enabled tools where appropriate to identify growth opportunities, at-risk members, and high-value segments. - Serve as the business owner for membership technology, including association management systems, CRM platforms, member portals, and marketing automation tools. - Partner with marketing teams to develop, launch, test, and optimize membership campaigns across email, digital advertising, social media, and event channels. - Collaborate with education, advocacy, events, field teams, development, and other functions to integrate membership value across programs and create connected member journeys. - Manage the membership budget, forecast dues revenue, and maintain sound financial oversight of membership investments. - Lead, coach, and develop a two-person membership team, establishing goals, strengthening capabilities, and fostering a member-focused culture. - Represent the professional membership program with external associations, industry communities, and relevant professional audiences. Requirements - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience; a master’s degree in business, nonprofit management, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred. - At least 7 years of progressive experience in membership growth, engagement, and retention, including a minimum of 2 years of people management experience.
