Job Description and Duties

Will Consider Transportation Planner.

Under direction of a Senior Transportation Planner, the Associate Transportation Planner performs complex and responsible transportation planning work supporting implementation of Senate Bill 695 (Transportation Climate Resiliency: Projects of Statewide and Regional Significance) and statewide port and maritime transportation planning. The incumbent researches, analyzes, and evaluates transportation projects, policies, data, and statutory requirements; develops recommendations, reports, guidance, and analytical tools; and coordinates with Caltrans Headquarters and Districts, the California Transportation Commission, CalSTA, regional agencies, federal partners, tribal governments, local jurisdictions, and California ports. The incumbent supports the Department's Port Liaison function by building relationships with port authorities and port security partners, conducting research using the Maritime Domain Awareness Tool and related resources, supporting multimodal and freight planning, assisting with policy development for port ingress and egress, and participating in the Readiness and Resiliency Workgroup.

Working Conditions

Position located at 1120 N Street, Sacramento, Sacramento County

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

The incumbent works in front of a dual-monitor computer system under artificial light in an office setting with long periods of  working in a sitting or standing position.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans current telework policy. While Caltrans supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquartered location. Business travel reimbursements considers an employee’s designated Headquarters location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.

1. Describe your experience supporting the implementation of legislation, transportation policies, programs, projects, or major initiatives. Provide specific examples of how you have conducted research or analysis, coordinated assignments and deliverables, tracked schedules, and developed recommendations. Explain how your experience prepares you to support implementation of SB 695 and transportation projects of statewide and regional significance.

2. Describe your experience serving as a liaison or working collaboratively with internal and external partners. Provide specific examples of how you have built effective working relationships, coordinated across organizations, communicated technical or complex information, resolved issues, and contributed to successful transportation planning, ports, freight, maritime transportation, resiliency, or emergency preparedness activities.
