Southampton Union Free School District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Head Custodian. This position is responsible for the overall custodial operation, maintenance, security, and day-to-day management of an assigned school building or facility.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities or other administrative supervisor, the Head Custodian supervises custodial personnel, coordinates building maintenance activities, monitors building systems, and ensures that District facilities provide a clean, safe, secure, and healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, schedule, train, evaluate, and direct custodial staff assigned to the building.
• Assign daily work schedules and monitor completion of custodial duties.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, attractive, and secure school environment.
• Inspect classrooms, offices, cafeterias, kitchens, gymnasiums, auditoriums, restrooms, corridors, stairwells, and exterior grounds.
• Coordinate routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance activities.
• Monitor and inspect HVAC systems, boilers, plumbing, electrical systems, lighting, and other mechanical equipment; report maintenance deficiencies requiring repair.
• Adjust heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to maintain proper building comfort and energy efficiency.
• Assist with emergency building repairs and respond to after-hours emergencies.
• Maintain building security by securing doors, windows, and gates after operating hours.
• Coordinate room setups for school functions, community events, athletic events, Board of Education meetings, concerts, examinations, and other activities.
• Maintain inventory of custodial supplies, equipment, and chemicals and requisition materials in accordance with established purchasing procedures.
• Ensure the proper storage, handling, and disposal of cleaning chemicals in accordance with OSHA regulations and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Maintain records including inspections, maintenance requests, work orders, inventory, custodial schedules, and building logs.
• Inspect custodial equipment and arrange for repairs or replacement as necessary.
• Assist with snow and ice removal operations and emergency weather events.
• Ensure compliance with District safety procedures, OSHA, AHERA, Right-to-Know, fire codes, and other applicable regulations.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff and outside contractors during construction and repair projects.
• Respond to alarms, emergencies, weather events, and other situations requiring immediate attention.
• Perform custodial duties as necessary during staffing shortages or emergency situations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
