About the position: This community facing role is responsible for implementing, managing, and evaluating Kidney Health for All® (KHFA) programs and initiatives focused on prevention, community engagement, strategic partnerships, health education, and access to care. Working closely with AKF’s KHFA Coalition, national and community partners, and internal teams, the Associate Director will translate community needs, research, and strategic priorities into actionable programs and strategies, adapting implementation across diverse communities to maximize impact. Responsibilities: Lead program implementation : Plan, implement, manage, and evaluate KHFA programs and initiatives from development through execution and continuous improvement. Turn insights into action : Use research, data, community feedback, coalition and partner input to develop actionable program strategies and address health equity challenges. Engage coalitions and communities : Collaborate with the KHFA Coalition, advisory groups, and partners to develop and implement solutions that reflect community needs. Adapt for impact : Modify programs, resources, and engagement strategies across diverse communities to ensure they are culturally responsive, accessible, and effective. Build strategic partnerships : Cultivate relationships with community organizations, health care partners, sponsors, vendors, and other partners to expand program reach and engagement. Develop and communicate resources : Manage development, review, and cultural adaptation of health education materials and deliver presentations to diverse audiences, including Spanish-speaking communities. Lead and collaborate : Supervise staff and/or interns and work cross-functionally with Communications, Development, Government Affairs, Business Operations, and other teams to ensure successful implementation. Represent AKF : Participate in conferences, community events, and outreach activities and monitor trends in kidney disease, public health, and health equity to identify opportunities for program improvement. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, community health, behavioral science, or related field (Master's degree preferred but not required). 3-5 years of experience in public health, health education, nonprofit, or related field, including 1-2+ years in a supervisory role . Experience implementing and managing programs and initiatives with the ability to take programs from planning through implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement. Bilingual English/Spanish required with the ability to read, write and interpret aspects of Spanish. Experience working with an advisory council, coalition, or collaborative group, including developing action plans and implementing strategies to address specific issues or community needs. Ability to implement and adapt programs across diverse communities based on local needs, culture, resources, and feedback. Strong adaptability, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, particularly when priorities or program needs change. Experience developing culturally responsive and health-literacy-informed programs and materials and use research, data, and community insights to inform program development and implementation. Understanding of health disparities and their impact on chronic disease, particularly diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective community and strategic partnerships as well as juggle competing priorities. Excellent written, verbal, presentation, project management and communication and PC skills including Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel. Commitment to health equity, cultural humility, and community engagement. Ability to travel approximately 15-20% nationally and work occasional evenings and weekends. CPH, CHES/MCHES, CDCES, or PMP certification preferred, but not required.
