Physical Therapist

Job Summary Physical therapists are licensed professionals who work with people who have limitations in their overall physical function. They examine, evaluate, diagnose, develop treatment plans, and provide a prognosis for each patient individually. The goal is to restore function, improve mobility, and decrease pain to re-establish the patient’s prior functional level. Physical therapists evaluate strength, balance, range of motion, coordination, endurance, and posture. Responsibilities Seek and obtain sufficient information necessary to function effectively where assigned. Provide individual patient/client services and determine priority needs for physical therapy by assessing therapeutic, rehabilitative, and functional status. Assess muscle strength, mobility, gait, ROM, potential for rehabilitation, and evaluate the home environment. Participate in the development of the total plan of care. Direct the physical therapy treatment plan of care. Regularly re-evaluate patient/client progress and revise the plan of care as necessary. Initiate the physical therapy program and instruct other personnel in certain phases of therapy. Instruct personnel in the use and care of therapeutic appliances and/or prosthetic devices when applicable. Maintain communication regarding patient/client status with supervisory personnel. Collaborate with the physician and team members to develop, implement, and support the patient’s plan of care. Complete and maintain accurate clinical notes regarding patient evaluation and attainment of goals. Observe the patient for reactions to treatment, changes in condition, and report changes as necessary. Assist caregivers/families and other healthcare personnel in providing continuity of care. Adhere to MGA policies, procedures, and handbook. Complete notes accurately and submit per respective policies and procedures. Submit clinical documentation weekly per agency guidelines. Represent oneself in a positive and professional manner. Adhere to dress code with a clean and neat professional appearance. Report on time and as scheduled to complete work within designated time. Participate in agency’s mandated activities such as in‑services. Requirements Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree from an accredited therapy program. Professional experience required per state regulations. Current license in good standing with the state’s licensing board. Current CPR certification per state regulations. Successful completion of appropriate screening tests with a passing rate. Comply with accepted professional standards of practice. Display good observation skills, judgement, oral, and written communication skills. Reliable transportation. Physical Requirements Ability to regularly sit, stand, stop, bend, kneel, walk, balance, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms and other physical activities as deemed necessary by job duties. Vision and hearing within normal limits, with or without aid. Ability to frequently lift or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift or move 100 pounds or more if applicable. Ability to perform the anticipated level of physical assist required to provide safe client care; notify supervisor immediately if assist level exceeds safe capacity. Work Environment The work environment is highly variable, as care is generally provided in private homes. Lighting, acoustics, air quality, temperature and environmental hazards are unpredictable. Employees may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, household pets, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
