Controller – Construction Industry Howell, NJ (Onsite) Our client, a growing and well-established company in the construction industry, is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and manage all accounting and financial operations. This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for someone with a strong background in construction accounting and expertise in QuickBooks Online . Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy and safeguard company assets Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash flow management Manage accounting for fixed assets, including vehicles and equipment/containers Lead and support a small accounting team (1–2 staff), ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial data Prepare and manage annual budgets and forecasts Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to leadership Prepare and present monthly financial reporting packages to executive management Drive initiatives to improve profitability, reduce costs, and enhance operational efficiency Maintain relationships with banks, auditors, and external partners Partner with external CPA firm on annual tax preparation for multiple entities and ownership structures Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, including multi‑state filings Support special projects and initiatives as directed by leadership Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field CPA or CMA designation preferred 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or Accounting Manager role Required: Experience within the construction or contracting industry (e.g., construction, HVAC, landscaping, trucking, etc.) Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and analysis Hands‑on experience with QuickBooks Online Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel Experience with multi‑state tax reporting (income, sales & use) Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization Detail‑oriented, proactive, and adaptable with a strong work ethic Why This Opportunity?
