Union Specialty is an AI-native wholesale insurance brokerage based in New York.

What we are building

Every year, around $150 billion of E&S premium is placed, most of it through wholesalers, and almost all of it moves the way it did twenty years ago: email chains, carrier portals, retyped applications and a week of waiting for a quote.

We are building an AI-native wholesale brokerage to change that. AI takes over much of the routine work, brokers focus on judgment and relationships, and agents get terms in hours instead of weeks.

The role

You will join our New York brokerage team, working directly with the CEO, our senior brokers and the CTO. The job has two halves, and they run in parallel.

The first half is the brokerage. You place business: you work accounts end to end, from submission through quoting, negotiation with underwriters and bind, and you handle what our platform does not handle yet, including exceptions, endorsements, change requests and the agent who needs a phone call.

The second half is the platform. You make the brokerage better: you are the first user of everything we build, and you sit side by side with our engineers. When an agent gets stuck, when a carrier portal does something strange, when a quote takes longer than it should, you find it, you bring it to the engineers, and you own getting it fixed. The way you handle an account today becomes the way the company handles the next hundred.

This is also how you learn to build technology. Writing up what is broken, deciding what matters most, working through a solution with engineers and testing what comes back is the job of a product manager at a technology company, and you will be doing it from your first month.

You will see every account, every market and every step of the process, and you will talk to underwriters and agents every day and to the CEO and CTO about what you learned. The people who learn this business inside out at this stage are the ones who run it later, as a broker, an underwriter or the head of our operations as we add states and lines.

Who we are looking for

• Experience in insurance: a broker at a wholesaler, an underwriting assistant or associate underwriter at an MGA, or an account manager at a retail agency. Recent graduates of a risk management and insurance program are welcome

• You like insurance and cannot stand how slowly it moves
\n
• P&C license a plus; if you are not licensed, we will get you there
\n
• Comfortable with technology: you learn a new carrier portal in an afternoon and use AI tools every day
\n
• Precise in writing and clear on the phone; every email you send goes to an underwriter or an agent under our name
\n
• Self-directed, willing to work hard, and motivated by being part of something early; the hours are long at times
\n
• New York, in office 5 days a week at 200 Broadway; some flexibility for the right person

Compensation

• $70,000 to $100,000 base salary (depending on experience)

• Bonus tied to team goals
