About the Position: Serves as a Medical Supply Technician for the Sterile Processing Department in Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Fort Belvoir, VA.

Work Schedule: 1st Shift - Monday - Friday, 0645-1515

2nd Shift - Monday -Friday, 1445-2315

3rd Shift - Monday - Friday, 2245-0715

Weekend Days - 0645 - 1915

Weekend Nights - 1845 - 0715

Alternate Schedule Negotiable.

Duties

Help

• Prepare surgical instruments and medical equipment using High Level Disinfection (HLD).
• Assemble surgical instruments based on standard operating procedures.
• Operate sterilization equipment.
• Maintain established supply levels and rotation of supplies.
• Perform testing on equipment for the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
• Utilize the appropriate sterilization method based upon manufacture requirements and recommendations.

• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Certifications related to Sterile Processing Preferred: CRCST, CBSPD

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Sterilizing medical supplies and equipment for use in a hospital or operating rooms; 2.) Troubleshooting sterilization equipment and machines using High Level Disinfecting; 3.) Inspecting medical supplies for defects; and 4.) Maintaining medical instrument inventory to ensure daily operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as sterile processing or medical instrument technician.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
