Why Chinburg?

Chinburg is a dynamic and growing company based in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire, with projects and properties throughout NH, ME, and VT. Over nearly four decades, we’ve grown from a small local business into one of Northern New England’s most trusted names in development, construction, and property management.

When you join Chinburg, you become part of a team where your work matters and your contributions help shape both our projects and our culture. We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, opportunities for career growth and professional development, and a collaborative environment where people are encouraged to take initiative, share ideas, and make a meaningful impact.

Position Summary: The Project Executive provides senior-level leadership for assigned construction projects from business development and preconstruction through closeout. This role is accountable for project performance, including profitability, schedule, quality, client satisfaction, risk management, and team effectiveness.

The Project Executive serves as the senior operational leader who ensures alignment between preconstruction, project management, field operations, and company leadership. The role provides strategic direction to Project Managers and Superintendents, removes obstacles, develops people, and ensures projects are delivered in accordance with company standards and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Project Oversight

  • Provide senior-level leadership and accountability for assigned projects from business development through closeout, including financial, operational, contractual, profitability, budget, schedule, quality, safety, client satisfaction, risk, and team performance.
  • Establish clear expectations for Project Managers, Superintendents, and project teams, ensuring consistent execution of company standards, processes, and SOPs.
  • Identify emerging issues, remove obstacles, resolve challenges, and escalate significant risks, issues, or opportunities to executive leadership.

Project Acquisition & Business Development

  • Collaborate with Business Development and company leadership to identify, evaluate, and pursue new project opportunities based on client needs, profitability, risk, complexity, resources, and execution requirements.
  • Represent the Company’s capabilities and value proposition, leveraging industry relationships to support leads, proposals, presentations, interviews, negotiations, and go/no-go decisions.

Preconstruction & Project Start-Up

  • Partner with Preconstruction to develop budgets, schedules, logistics plans, staffing plans, risk strategies, procurement approaches, and execution plans.
  • Assign appropriate project leadership and ensure teams understand roles, responsibilities, contracts, scope, budget, schedule, assumptions, qualifications, and key risks before mobilization.
  • Lead or participate in turnover meetings to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to operations.

Project Operations & Execution

  • Maintain accountability for project execution and ensure projects meet budget, schedule, quality, profitability, contractual, and operational requirements.
  • Provide strategic direction to Project Managers and Superintendents, visit job sites regularly, identify risks, resolve escalated issues, and support continuous improvement in execution, efficiency, quality, and profitability.
  • Ensure project teams work from current approved plans, specifications, contracts, subcontracts, scopes, RFIs, submittals, sketches, and other contract modifications.

Financial & Risk Management

  • Maintain accountability for project financial performance, including profitability, cash flow, accounts receivable, forecasting, cost control, commitments, liabilities, contingencies, savings, exposures, and project financial accuracy.
  • Review financial performance and forecasts with Project Managers and leadership, identifying risks and opportunities early and developing mitigation or recovery strategies.
  • Oversee subcontractor scope understanding, contractual obligations, change management, and timely resolution of financial and contractual issues.

Schedule Management

  • Provide oversight for baseline schedule development, ensuring realistic milestones, sequencing, procurement requirements, and critical path activities.
  • Monitor schedule performance, identify delays and schedule-related risks early, and work with project teams to develop proactive solutions or recovery plans.
  • Ensure project teams follow company planning processes and applicable SOPs.

People Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and project team members while setting clear expectations and holding leaders accountable for results.
  • Monitor staffing, workload, performance, and effectiveness, ensuring the right people are assigned based on project needs, individual capabilities, and development opportunities.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, performance management, staffing needs, collaboration, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement across project teams.

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a senior Company representative with owners, clients, architects, consultants, municipalities, authorities, and other key stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain professional client relationships, attend key meetings, monitor satisfaction and future needs, and address concerns before they escalate.
  • Foster long-term relationships that support repeat business, referrals, and the Company’s reputation through professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and a solutions-oriented approach.

Safety & Quality

  • Champion the Company’s safety culture and ensure project teams comply with the Safety Program, regulatory requirements, project-specific safety plans, and applicable resources.
  • Support Project Managers and Superintendents in addressing safety concerns, correcting deficiencies, and maintaining accountability for project quality and construction standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Meetings & Communication

  • Attend internal and client-facing project meetings as needed and maintain consistent communication with Project Managers, Superintendents, Preconstruction, Finance, Executive Leadership, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure significant project issues, risks, decisions, and opportunities are communicated promptly while promoting transparency, accountability, and alignment between office and field operations.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in company-wide initiatives, strategic planning, and operational improvement efforts as requested.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of project management processes, systems, and SOPs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • May involve management of projects in situations where we don’t have a PM to manage for a period of time.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of commercial and/or residential construction, project delivery methods, contract administration, plans, specifications, scopes of work, subcontractor agreements, and industry practices.
  • Significant experience managing complex construction projects, with responsibility for financial performance, schedule, quality, safety, client satisfaction, and overall project outcomes.
  • Strong financial, business, and risk-management acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, cash flow, change management, profitability, opportunity evaluation, and risk mitigation.
  • Exceptional leadership and people-management skills, including the ability to lead through others, develop teams, provide appropriate oversight, and hold Project Managers, Superintendents, and project teams accountable.
  • Strong strategic thinking, judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues, evaluate alternatives, manage competing priorities, and remain effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, conflict-resolution, interpersonal, and relationship-management skills with executives, clients, owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, employees, and industry partners.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term client and industry relationships that support repeat business and future opportunities.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, data, reports, schedules, contracts, technical documentation, and broader strategic and financial objectives.
  • Demonstrated integrity, accountability, professionalism, ethical judgment, and commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant construction management, project management, scheduling, estimating, financial, and other business software; ability to learn new technology, systems, and processes.
  • Ability to travel regularly between project sites, offices, client locations, and other business-related locations as required.

Other Essential Requirements

  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Interact respectfully and professionally with customers, vendors, subcontractors, co-workers, and the public.
  • Comply with all company policies, procedures, and personnel practices.
  • Review, acknowledge, and comply with Chinburg Builders, Inc. Code of Safety Practices.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Complete all required company training and maintain required certifications, as applicable.
