TRUCK MECHANIC
LOCATION: DUBUQUE IA
DIRECT HIRE PERM-45-50 hours plus some Saturdays
WAGE: $30-$34/hour
A truck mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the company’s fleet—often including log trucks, semis, trailers, and sometimes loaders or forklifts used in hardwood operations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, filters, brake checks)
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, and drivetrains
Maintain hydraulic systems (common on logging trucks and trailers)
Inspect and repair braking systems and suspensions
Troubleshoot electrical and diagnostic systems
Ensure vehicles meet DOT safety regulations
Keep maintenance records and logs
Respond to road calls or emergency repairs when trucks break down
Typical Equipment You’ll Work On
Class 7–8 diesel trucks (Peterbilt, Kenworth, etc.)
Log trailers and flatbeds
Forklifts or yard loaders
Chainsaws or smaller mechanical tools (sometimes)
Requirements
Experience with diesel engines (often 2–5+ years preferred)
Knowledge of hydraulics and air brake systems
Ability to use diagnostic software/tools
CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is often preferred or required
Ability to lift heavy parts and work in shop + outdoor conditions
