Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students and staff as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired. In this pivotal part-time role, you’ll deliver critical expertise across multiple schools, increasing access and consistency for students with visual impairments district-wide. The position focuses on intensive capacity-building at the start of the year, then transitions to ongoing support as school staff gain skills and confidence. Expect a collaborative atmosphere where you’ll make a tangible impact in students’ educational journeys and school culture.

What You'll Bring:

  • Valid FL Educator Certification (required)
  • Experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in school-based settings
  • Proficiency with braille instruction, assistive technology tools, and strategies for instructional access
  • Knowledge of current best practices for supporting students with complex visual needs
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coach/mentor other educators
  • Comfortable working in a virtual/remote capacity
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and eligibility for a JLA badge (details provided upon offer)

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide and mentor K-12 teachers on strategies to support students with visual impairments
  • Deliver ongoing training in braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional methods
  • Collaborate with school teams to create inclusive, consistent practices across the district
  • Foster independence and positive learning outcomes for students
  • Provide intensive initial support with a tapered approach as staff confidence builds
  • Participate virtually, with flexible scheduling to meet school needs
