Poultry Refrigeration TechnicianThe Poultry Refrigeration Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration and freezing systems within a poultry processing facility. This role ensures proper product temperatures, food safety compliance, and reliable operation of ammonia or Freon-based refrigeration systems.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate, monitor, and maintain refrigeration and freezer systemsPerform preventive and corrective maintenance on compressors, evaporators, condensers, and control systemsMonitor system pressures, temperatures, and alarmsRespond to refrigeration system failures and emergency situationsMaintain accurate logs, readings, and maintenance documentationFollow ammonia safety, PSM, and emergency response proceduresPerform lockout/tagout and safety checks before maintenance activitiesCoordinate repairs with maintenance, production, and sanitation teamsSupport audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, USDA)Assist with startup, shutdown, and defrost operationsQualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferredPrevious industrial refrigeration experience required (food or poultry processing preferred)Knowledge of ammonia (NH?) and/or Freon-based systemsUnderstanding of refrigeration controls, valves, pumps, and sensorsAbility to read schematics, P&IDs, and system diagramsPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift throughout the shiftAbility to lift up to 50 lbsAbility to work in cold, wet, noisy, or elevated environmentsAbility to wear respirators and safety equipmentWork EnvironmentPoultry processing facility, engine rooms, freezers, and rooftopsExposure to cold temperatures, chemicals, noise, and pressurized systemsOn-call or emergency response rotation may be required
