Description Position at Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists Small Animal Surgery Residency Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists | Buzzards Bay, MA Program Dates: July 12, 2027 - July 15, 2030 Starting Salary: $85,000 annually Positions Available: 1 Are you a veterinarian interested in pursuing a career in small animal surgery and looking for a residency that provides hands‑on surgical experience, mentorship, and opportunities to develop your clinical skills? Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists (CCVS) will be accepting applications starting November1, 2026, for our three‑year Small Animal Surgery Residency set to begin in July2027. Our program offers the opportunity to work closely with board‑certified veterinary surgeons, gain experience managing a broad range of surgical cases, and develop the clinical judgment and technical skills needed for a career in specialty surgery. As a 24‑hour emergency and specialty hospital, CCVS provides a collaborative environment where surgical residents work alongside specialists in emergency and critical care, internal medicine, anesthesia, diagnostic imaging, cardiology, and other specialties. About The Internship Our surgery service manages a diverse caseload, with approximately 3,176 cases annually. Residents participate in patient care, surgical procedures, case management, and clinical education, with increasing responsibility throughout the program. During your residency, you will have opportunities to: Perform a broad range of surgical procedures under the guidance of board‑certified surgeons. Manage surgical cases from initial evaluation and diagnostic planning through surgery and postoperative care. Develop surgical decision‑making, technical skills, and confidence in managing complex cases. Participate in daily patient rounds with boarded specialists and weekly teaching rounds. Gain experience with advanced diagnostic imaging, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Teach and mentor veterinary interns while developing your own clinical teaching skills. Complete a research project and prepare a first‑author manuscript for publication. Participate in professional presentations, continuing education, and board examination preparation. Participate in a required on call rotation Our surgery department works closely with our emergency and specialty services, providing residents with exposure to a variety of surgical conditions and multidisciplinary case management. Mentorship and Clinical Development At CCVS, we understand the importance of mentorship throughout residency training. Residents work directly with our board‑certified surgeons and receive structured mentorship, regular feedback, and opportunities for increasing surgical responsibility. Our program includes formal evaluations twice annually, educational rounds, research support, and resources for board examination preparation. Must pass NAVLE/PAVE/ECFVG prior to program start US work authorization required for the duration of the program Candidates must meet all Massachusetts veterinary licensure requirements and hold an active Massachusetts veterinary license prior to program start. Required DEA registration and USDA accreditation must also be obtained before beginning the program.
