Box 30035 Charlotte , NC 28230 Non Instructional/Support Services Job Number 4600322165 Start Date Open Date 06/03/2026 Closing Date 06/22/2026 General Definition of Work The district lead behavior modification technician, under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion related to providing behavior support and professional development to multiple schools. Duties include observing schools' application of behavior management techniques and providing feedback, conducting district-wide training, and providing extra support. Employee performs both school-based and district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Discipline and Behavior Support. Hourly NC 11A/ Full-time, 10 months Reports To Executive Director of Student Discipline and Behavior Support Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures Implement a behavioral program designed to make positive and appropriate changes Lead behavior modification technicians (BMTs) and support staff at multiple schools through training, delegating and reviewing work, coordinating schedules, and communicating with stakeholders Assist schools with the development, coordination, and implementation of behavior management programs and strategies Collaborate with school intervention teams to provide student and staff support as needed Address needs of students appropriately and in accordance with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) Observe and document behaviors of designated students; maintain detailed logs of student progress, relative behavior, and social development as well as a database of programmatic data for use in reporting Follow up on possible referrals: contact school-based staff, parents/guardians, and community agencies to attain additional information Collaborate with schools to assist with implementing researched-based alternatives to suspension Work cooperatively with district staff and community agencies in accessing resources for students and their parents Assess crisis situations and defuse situations using appropriate conflict resolution and crisis management techniques Implement restorative practices and provide support to district alternative programs Develop and deliver presentations and training Assist with professional development and cross-training to support staff to optimize their use of resources Facilitate staff meetings and attend other related meetings as needed/required Create an inclusive environment with positive communication/public relations Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques Knowledge of related laws and school system behavior management principles Skilled in communication, both verbal and written Skilled in computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Ability to travel to various locations across the district Ability to effectively supervise other employees and provide feedback Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums Ability to evaluate staff's utilization of behavioral strategies and provide feedback Ability to develop and implement effective individual and group behavior management plans Ability to conduct training sessions, present information and orient staff Ability to reason, make judgments, and maintain effective working relationships Ability to intervene and manage stressful situations through utilizing appropriate conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business Ability to effectively explain the school system's disciplinary policies and procedures Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and to implement recommendations in support of current goals Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement Education and Experience High school diploma with additional specialized trainings and certifications or two (2) years of related college coursework required Four (4) years of experience as a BMT required Active Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Certification required Bachelor's degree in Social Services or related field preferred Two (2) years supervisory experience preferred Equivalent combination of education and experience Physical Requirements Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. The work often requires bending, squatting, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights. The work requires activities involving driving automotive equipment. Will regularly require sufficient physical strength and ability to exert physical effort as needed for crisis intervention or handling objects over 30 pounds. May occasionally require work with risk for potential job-related injury, such as physical confrontations.
