For more information, visit vigor.net. HOURLY RATE: $42.62 POSITION SUMMARY: This role supports the Machine Shop Manager in the planning and performance of work. He/she provides assistance to the project in relevant areas such as planning, materials coordination, change order management, and outside sales/business development. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities.
  • Provides assistance to the project in relevant areas such as Work Order planning, materials coordination, change order management, and document control and distribution
  • Support projects by providing expertise and oversight of relevant areas to Production Manager.
  • Interfaces with Buyers and production personnel to assure best outcomes in support of the material flow to support production needs at each workstation.
  • Ensures Work Orders are produced on time in order to meet the requirements of the schedule.
  • Assesses the impact of change and delay on condition found issues. Facilitates meetings with Production Supervisors as required to develop shop plans and adjust schedules as required.
  • Advises the Project Manager on delays/impacts to the project schedule.
  • Produces, copies, and distributes Work Orders and other documents to production personnel, as needed.
  • Gather the necessary information (drawings, specs, etc.) for projects and track changes.
  • Continuous process improvement and commitment to Lean techniques.
  • Works from ship specifications, work orders, and applicable working drawings. Possess a high level of proficiency when reading and understanding blueprints and assembly drawings.
  • Sourcing materials for jobs (plate, roundbar, bearings, seals, fasteners, etc…).
  • Engages in outside sales, estimating, or project quotes. In addition, manages outsourcing of work when necessary.
  • Complies with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures.
  • Responsible for tracking/recording Condition Found Reports (CFRs) and providing communication to the project management team as to the impact to project.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Responds to change productively and contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Identifies, recommends and documents required changes to drawings and design required to improve processes for follow on work. May utilize AutoCad to document changes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:  Does not have direct reports but indirectly supervises craft material handlers in ensuring materials are delivered to the proper workstations. INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: The person interacts with union and nonunion employees on the shop floor and in meetings. May at times be required to facilitate schedule discussions with Production Supervisors to mitigate conflicts with workstation flow. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels and outside customers.
  • Analytical ability to research problem areas and special requests as necessary.
  • Ability to use PC and software applications such as MS Office and Database programs.
  • Ability to use office machines, including personal computers; must possess typing and data input skills.
  • Must have knowledge of shipyard production procedures, ISO standards, government regulations, craft jurisdictions, ship repair methods and administrative procedures.
  • Must be a well-organized, detail and customer (internal and external) oriented self-starter, work well independently, prioritize duties and follow through tasks to completion as necessary.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities and deadlines effectively and respond well to last minute, high priority, time and business sensitive projects.
  • Must be able to handle the pressure of constant interruptions.
  • Ability to schedule, direct and organize work within a diverse department and coordinate work with others to maintain efficiency and facilitate group decision-making, team building and conflict resolution.
  • Knowledge of filing systems, office machines, and general office procedures.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: 
  • High School Diploma or GED is required. AA Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience working with ship personnel, port engineers, craft supervisors, department managers, naval surveyors and government staff is preferred.
  • Experience working with IFS software is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: None required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate to loud noise levels from production activity in the shipyard or machine shop. Approximately, 40% normal office environment; 60% of time spent in production areas consisting of in yard, machine shop, and aboard ships. He/she must be able to walk to and from job sites. The person must be able to climb inclined stairways and vertical ladders; to enter confined areas and tanks; to work at heights. The incumbent must be able to frequently bend, squat, crawl, twist and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. The person may be required to work local waterfront jobs and on vessels underway. He/she may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts and weekend work. There may be local travel up to 10% of the time with notice. WORK ENVIRONMENT:  While in production areas the person will be exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dusts and odors. This role is with a federally contracted employer and is subject to regulations that restrict employment to US Persons only (i.e. US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, legally recognized asylees and refugees, and persons protected under INA).
