Job Description and Duties

Performs routine maintenance, service, repairs, and safety checks of all departmental vehicles assigned to the area. Installs equipment on new vehicles. Prepares run out vehicles and salvaged vehicles for resale. Installs and maintains specialty equipment. Adheres to all orders, policies and appropriate Motor Transport Bulletins. Maintains current up-to-date records of all in stock equipment/parts, ensure adequate on-hand inventory commensurate with fleet needs and provide timely sale of used materials (tires, batteries, etc.), with concurrence of the Fleet Supervisor. Maintains up-to-date copies of the Fleet Operations Manual and Bulletins. Diligently check all billings to ensure optimum cost/quality maintenance level is maintained. Advises Fleet Supervisor of all pending major repairs which may exceed $500.00. Obtain cost effective bids for review/approval by the Fleet Supervisor. Gas level intakes to be checked each business day and reconciled against meter readings. Emergency generator to be checked weekly for proper operation including propane fuel level and oil level. Transportation of patrol vehicles to garages for necessary repair or warranty work that cannot be accomplished at area. Data entry into Fleet Focus program.
