Director Of Transportation

The Director Of Transportation Is Responsible For Overseeing And Coordinating All Aspects Of Transportation Services For Holland Christian Schools. This Position Provides Leadership For The School's Transportation Program, Ensuring That Students Are Transported Safely, Efficiently, And Reliably While Maintaining Compliance With All Applicable Federal, State, And Local Regulations.

The Director Of Transportation Works Collaboratively With School Administration, Drivers, Families, Students, And Other Members Of The Holland Christian Community.

Essential Responsibilities

Transportation Operations

• Oversee The Daily Operation Of Holland Christian Schools' Transportation Program.
• Responsible For Driving One Route, Shuttle Or Field Trip Per Day.
• Coordinate Transportation Routes, Schedules, Stops, And Special Transportation Needs.
• Monitor Transportation Operations To Ensure Students Arrive At School And Return Home Safely And On Time.
• Coordinate Transportation For Athletic Events, Field Trips, Extracurricular Activities, And Other School-Related Activities.
• Evaluate Transportation Needs And Make Recommendations Regarding Routes, Schedules, Staffing, And Resources.
• Respond To Transportation Issues, Delays, Emergencies, And Parent Or Staff Concerns In A Timely And Professional Manner.
• Establish And Maintain Effective Procedures For Communicating Transportation Changes And Disruptions.

Driver Management

• Recruit, Interview, Train, Onboard, And Supervise School Bus Drivers And Other Transportation Personnel.
• Develop Driver Schedules And Ensure Appropriate Coverage For Regular Routes And Special Events.
• Maintain Regular Communication With Drivers Regarding Expectations, Schedules, Safety Procedures, And Operational Needs.
• Conduct Or Coordinate Driver Evaluations And Provide Appropriate Feedback And Coaching.
• Address Attendance, Performance, Conduct, And Other Employment Concerns In Collaboration With Human Resources And School Administration.
• Foster A Positive, Professional, And Service-Oriented Culture Among Transportation Staff.

Safety & Compliance

• Maintain A Transportation Program That Prioritizes The Safety And Well-Being Of Students And Staff.
• Ensure Compliance With Applicable Michigan Department Of State, Michigan Department Of Education, Michigan State Police, Federal, And Local Transportation Requirements.
• Maintain Required Driver Qualifications, Certifications, Training, Testing, And Records.
• Ensure Vehicles Receive Required Inspections, Maintenance, And Repairs.
• Maintain Accurate Transportation Records And Documentation.
• Establish And Implement Transportation Safety Procedures And Emergency Protocols.
• Investigate And Document Transportation-Related Accidents, Incidents, And Safety Concerns.
• Partner With The Director Of Student And Campus Safety And Other School Leaders As Appropriate On Transportation Safety Matters.

Fleet Management

• Oversee The Maintenance, Inspection, Repair, And General Condition Of School Buses And Other Transportation Vehicles.
• Develop And Maintain Preventative Maintenance Schedules.
• Monitor Vehicle Safety And Determine When Vehicles Should Be Removed From Service.
• Coordinate With Mechanics, Service Providers, And Vendors As Necessary.
• Make Recommendations Regarding Vehicle Purchases, Replacements, And Disposal.
• Monitor Transportation-Related Expenses And Assist With Development And Management Of The Transportation Budget.

Communication & Customer Service

• Serve As The Primary Point Of Contact For Transportation-Related Questions And Concerns.
• Communicate Clearly And Professionally With Parents, Students, Staff, Administrators, And Community Partners.
• Respond To Concerns With Patience, Professionalism, And A Commitment To Finding Appropriate Solutions.
• Provide Timely Communication Regarding Route Changes, Delays, Cancellations, Weather- Related Transportation Decisions, And Other Significant Transportation Matters.
• Build Positive Relationships With Families And Staff By Providing Dependable And Responsive Service.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Develop And Maintain Transportation Policies, Procedures, And Protocols.
• Maintain Accurate Transportation Records And Documentation.
• Assist With The Annual Transportation Budget And Monitor Expenditures.
• Review Transportation Operations Regularly And Identify Opportunities For Improved Efficiency And Service.
• Maintain Appropriate Records Related To Vehicles, Drivers, Routes, Training, Inspections, And Incidents.
• Participate In Meetings And Planning Activities Related To School Operations And Transportation.
• Provide Regular Updates And Recommendations To School Administration Regarding Transportation Needs, Challenges, And Opportunities.

Qualifications

Required

• High School Diploma Or Equivalent.
• Valid Michigan Driver's License And Appropriate Qualifications To Operate School Transportation Vehicles.
• Ability To Obtain And Maintain All Required School Bus Driver Certifications And Credentials Applicable To The Position.
• Demonstrated Experience In Transportation, Fleet Management, Logistics, Supervision, Or A Related Field.
• Strong Organizational And Problem-Solving Skills.
• Excellent Communication And Interpersonal Skills.
• Ability To Remain Calm And Make Sound Decisions In Emergency Or High-Pressure Situations.
• Ability To Work Effectively With Students, Parents, Employees, And School Leaders.
• Commitment To Student Safety And Exceptional Customer Service.

Physical & Working Requirements

The Position Requires The Ability To:

• Regularly Move Throughout School Facilities, Transportation Areas, And Bus Lots.
• Enter And Exit School Buses And Inspect Vehicles.
• Work Outdoors In Varying Weather Conditions.
• Occasionally Work Early Mornings, Evenings, Weekends, Or Other Nontraditional Hours Based On Transportation Needs.
• Respond To Transportation Emergencies And Time-Sensitive Situations.
• Perform Other Physical Tasks Reasonably Associated With Transportation Oversight And Vehicle Operations.

Employment Relationship

The Director Of Transportation Reports To The Designated School Administrator And Works Closely With Human Resources, School Principals, The Director Of Student And Campus Safety, And Other Members Of The Administrative Team.
